Peacefully at CEE Hospital of Bluewater Health in Petrolia on Thursday, September 15, 2022, Baziel Germain Bonamie passed away at the age of 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife Celina, married 55 years. Survived by his grandchildren Linda (Frank) Vanderwel, Chuck (Gayle Dailey) Veiveris, and his great-grandchildren Frank Vanderwel (Ruth Keoviphone), Isaac Vanderwel, Jordan Vanderwel (Brooklyn Doherty), Hilary (Chris) Hinds and their children Ali and Quin, Devon (Nicole) Dailey, and his niece, Frieda (Gerald Bert) Bonamie. Predeceased by his daughter Jeanine (the late Victor) Veiveris and his siblings, Achiel Bonamie, Roger Bonamie and Irma Bonamie.
Baziel and Celina arrived in Canada in 1954 and came to call Vittoria Ontario, home. They didn’t speak a word of English but connected to the Flemish Community and set their roots there. Baziel was a tobacco farmer for many years until he retired in 1978. They enjoyed winters in Brownsville Texas, and also made many trips home to Belgium over the years.
A celebration of Baziel’s life will happen at a later date. His cremated remains will be interred at Walsh United Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Albany Retirement Village (special thanks to Amanda) for making Baziel feel at home.
