Obituary of Barbara Joan Reeve
(nee Smith)
In her 86th year, Barbara passed away peacefully from breast cancer at The Jacob Senior Living Retirement Home in Beamsville, surrounded by her family, on Saturday July 23, 2022.
During her long and dedicated career extending over twenty-five years, Barb touched many children’s lives as a Kindergarten Teacher with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (some schools include: Winona Public, Janet Lee, Mountain View, Lake Avenue, and Glover Road). She shared her passion for music and faith at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Dunnville as Director of Music (organist/pianist/children’s choir), a loyal ACW member, and was honoured with The Order of Niagara. Barb’s compassion for others was lovingly sewn into beautiful quilts, and prayer shawls, including a crocheted Remembrance Day poppy blanket which she helped create while living at The Jacob. She enjoyed travelling and loved her many pets which included dogs, cats and donkeys. She held a special place in her heart for her beloved adopted rescue golden retriever, ‘Lucky’ who predeceased her.
Barb was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul Reeve, dear brother Arthur Smith, and parents Jessie and Sydney Smith. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Beechener (Marty), Michele Lambie (Peter), and her many step-children (Langford/Reeve). She was a much-loved Nana to Derek, Mathew, Jessica, Joshua and Alex. She was a beloved aunt to Michael Smith (Lawrie, Tyler, Hayden) and Nadene Ebell, as well as a cherished cousin to George Marshall. Barbara will be forever loved and missed by her family and the multitude of friends she has made over her lifetime.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the entire staff of The Jacob Senior Living Retirement Home and to her wonderfully supportive friends living there, whom we all consider to be an extension of our family. Our heartfelt appreciation to her Oncologist, Dr. Tozer, and Jodie at the Juravinski Breast Care Centre for their expertise and responsiveness, as well as to Barb’s family doctor, Dr. Kavanagh for his personal care and kindness, and to the amazing Palliative care team at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Friday, July 29th from 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service commencing at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Grimsby, ON. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Juravinski Breast Cancer Clinic or the SPCA.
