Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on January 31, 2022, Austin Walsh of Ferryland, age 90 years.
Predeceased by his parents, James and Bridget Walsh; parents- in- law, James and Ellen Moore; sisters, Edna Harvey (Bill), Mary Brewin (Eric), Clara Scott (Richard), Agnes Jordan; brother, Cecil (Hilda).
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his loving wife of 65 years, Anna (Moore) and his faithful daughter, Helen; also, brother, Richard and sisters, Kitty Clowe and Doris Hapgood. Also mourning Austin’s passing are his sister-in- law, Esther Marshall (Pat), and his brother-in-law, Edgar Moore; numerous nieces and nephews; special nephew, Jimmy Harvey (Connie); and his many friends and neighbours in Ferryland and surrounding communities.
All Austin ever knew was hard work, beginning at Henry Johnston’s Southern Shore Trading Company at 12 years of age working from daylight till dark for 10 cents an hour. From fishing in The Drook to years of making fish with the Morry’s, the ocean was a big part of his life. So was the woods: Austin loved nothing better than hauling wood, trouting, picking berries, hunting, boiling up and traipising all over God’s creation. He loved company and a good game of cards peppered with stories of days gone by…true stories… well, mostly true.
The family wishes to thank Sharon Aylward, Nurse Practitioner at the Shamrock Medical Centre in Ferryland, Katie Boland and her team at Baltimore Pharmacy, and the health care providers on the 4th floor of the Health Science, for all the care given to Austin in his time of need. Cremation has taken place, and Mass of Christian Burial will be in Holy Trinity Church in Ferryland at a time to be announced shortly. Covid restrictions will be in place, and anyone who wishes to attend Mass, please call Connie at 699-1865. May his soul rest in peace.
