Obituary of Audrey Elizabeth Dawson
Audrey Dawson
A brief look into my life – I was born Audrey Elizabeth in Saskatoon, SK. and have lived here my entire life. I attended Caswell School and Bedford Road Collegiate.
In my formative years, I enjoyed many lifelong friendships, ice-skating, roller skating and loved competitive Highland dancing.
I later married and had four wonderful children – three sons and a daughter. Being a mother was my greatest reward; I loved every minute of raising a busy family with lots of activities throughout the years. Whether it was sewing dance costumes, helping with Cub and Boy Scout badges, baking all kinds of goodies, cooking delicious meals, cheering at swim and track meets, school activities, etc. I tried to be there to cheer them on. They would go on to have successful careers and I am a proud Mother.
I have eight terrific grandchildren. I spent many fun loving times with them as they were growing up. I made all kinds of theme birthday cakes for them, which they enjoyed. I knitted a lot of character sweaters, toques and scarves throughout the years. These items were treasured and now my great-grandchildren wearing them. I have ten great-grandchildren and seeing them brings me joy.
Besides my family time, I enjoy flowers. I always planted begonias, geraniums, sunflowers and others in my yard.
Holidays when I was a child were spent mostly at Manitou Beach and one trip to the mountains. I was anxious to do more travelling and accomplished this with trips to Disneyland, Tofino, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, New York, Hawaii, Mexico, Niagara Falls and other trips I’ll never forget.
When Harry Bailey Aquatic Center opened. I attended Aquafit classes three times a week for years. I made new friends whom I am still in contact with. Along with Aquafit, I have always been very active walking. For a long time I walked miles each week. I still kept walking, but a lot shorter distance. I think walking and the love and support of my family have kept me healthy and helped me to live a long life.
In 2016, I moved into Luther Heights. I enjoy the exercise classes three times a week and have made numerous lasting friendships. I love the sun streaming into my suite.
I had a dog, Cinnamon, and a cat, Muffin, who were my long time buddies; always there with unconditional love. They are still missed.
As a big Rider fan, I try to watch as many games as I can and cheer them on.
Nightly I reflect and as the song goes “I say to myself, it’s a wonderful world”.
