Obituary
Arnold Frederick Ponting, age 78, from Okotoks, Alberta passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022, from cancer.
Arnold is survived by his best friend Michelle Nordin, and his three children Tanya Ponting (Kyle Sum), Solveig Hay (Plat Apostolidis), and Jay Ponting. As well as grandchildren Alexandra Ponting, Nathan Sum, Jacob Sum, Elizabeth Apostolidis-Hay, and great grandchildren Alyra Marshall. He leaves behind one sister Audrey Legoffe.
Arnold is predeceased by his wife Carol Ponting, ex-wife Donna Ponting, and son Jeremy Ponting. As well as sisters Joan Gunn and Doreen Perog.
Arnold was born in Saint Laurent, Quebec. His family moved a lot within Ontario when he was younger but was mostly raised in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. His journeys then lead him to Wainwright, AB, Merritt, BC, Vancouver, BC, finally retiring in Okotoks, Alberta after residing and working many years in Calgary.
Arnold retired from working as a heavy-duty mechanic. He worked in a variety of places such as the mines in Merritt, different shops in the Vancouver area such as BC Sugar and Wajax in Calgary.
Arnold loved to cook and entertain friends and family. He was very artistic and loved to paint pictures, do photography, carpentry, and was currently restoring his 1946 Ford truck. Arnold was a very friendly, outgoing, caring person. He would help anyone who needed something repaired, or an odd job done. He got to know everyone in the neighbourhood while walking his little dog, Missy.
Arnold will be dearly missed by his family, friends, neighours, and dog, Missy.
A funeral service will be held on Monday July 25, 2022, at 1:30 P.M. at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in Okotoks (200 Woodgate Road). A graveside service will be held on a later date in Burnaby, British Columbia.
