Obituary
It is with sadness the family of Anton (Tony) William Rollheiser late of Rosetown, SK announce his passing on July 23, 2022 at Royal University Hospital at the age of 85 years.
Tony was born on January 12, 1937 to Jacob and Katherine (née Seiben) Rollheiser on the family farm in Grosswerder, SK (close to the town of Denzil). Tony was the 8th child of 13. He went to Palm School until Grade 9, then went to St. Thomas College in Battleford for grade 10 and finally to Primate for grades 11 and 12. When Tony finished his schooling he went to Regina, SK where he worked for the Coop Creamery for the summer. He came to Rosetown, SK and worked for Horosko Construction for the fall. The following spring, he worked for his brother-in-law Leo at Bertolo Construction for three years before starting work at Foster Construction for the next three years. Around 1957, Tony and his partner Murray started T & M Const; they worked together for 30 years building many houses, garages, multiple projects and lots of reno’s.
Tony was a Charter member of the Fr. Provost Knight of Columbus Council #5238 when it was formed in 1958 and he was Treasurer for many, many years. Tony worked at the bingos and Sunday brunches held at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church. Tony was very active in the parish, volunteering his time in many ways; counting Sunday collections, art and environment, usher, welcoming committee, also reno’s to the rectory and many other projects. He played baseball with numerous teams, loved curling and bowling – he won many trophies.
Tony was friends with Betty Ann and Gerald Shasko for many years. In 1986, Gerald passed away. Tony got together with Betty Ann in 1987 and they started dating shortly after. On September 10, 1988, they were married at St. Theresa’s Church in Rosetown. Not only did Tony become a husband, he became a dad, a grandfather and later a great-grandfather. Tony and Betty Ann started travelling, went on many bus trips in and around Canada and many trips to the US. They made yearly trips to Minnesota, USA to visit family. Over they years they went on lots of cruises and overseas trips.
In 1997, Tony semi-retired but did lots of odd jobs for people. Besides building a lot of furniture pieces, he enjoyed making shadow boxes and other wood projects for his kids and grandkids.
Tony enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies and going for coffee three times a week until Covid hit. In 2020, Tony started having health issues, in February 2021 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Even with his recent health issues, Tony still made time to go for coffee with his buddies, weeding the garden and flowerbeds. He enjoyed helping Betty Ann in the kitchen doing dishes, preparing meals and making bread. He also took on household chores and never complained when family or friends needed his advice or help – he was always there.
Tony was loved and respected by many, he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, the church and community.
Tony is survived by his wife Betty Ann Rollheiser, sisters Dorothy Rollheiser, Armella Rollheiser and Barb Rollheiser, brother Gregor (Muriel) Rollheiser, sister-in-law Gertie Rollheiser, brothers-in-law Kelly Dukes and Leo Bertolo, sons Fred (Fiona) Shasko and Stan Shasko, daughter Brenda (Don) Weal as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Katherine Rollheiser, brothers Benedict Rollheiser, Rudolph Rollheiser, Wendel Rollheiser and Wilfred Rollheiser, sisters Lena (Peter) Zeigler, Rose Dukes and Louise Bertolo, daughter Debbie Shaw and son Alvin Shasko.
The Vigil of Prayer will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, Rosetown, SK and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, Rosetown, SK with Reverend Father Habila Musa celebrating.
Donations in memory of Tony may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, 200-4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK, S4W 0G3 or to a charity of choice.
