Obituary
Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park Long Term Care Facility on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, just shy of her 95th birthday, Annie Vera Butler (Coombs), of St. John’s, originally from Upper Island Cove, NL.
Predeceased by her brothers Don (Sybil), Dave, Angus (Jean), Eric, Ted and Harold, her sister Lorna Mossop, her brothers-in law Harold Butler, and Gordon Butler (Nora), and her sisters-in- law Alethia Cuff (Beaton) and Mary Cook (Roy).
Leaving to mourn, her husband of almost 75 years, Alex Butler, originally from Port Rexton, NL and currently residing at Chancellor Park; her two daughters, Marilyn Wakeham (Rennie) of St. John’s, and Carol Kitchen (Don) of Uxbridge, ON, as well as one grandson Mark Kitchen (Dana) of Uxbridge, ON and one great-grandson Nathan Kitchen. Also leaving to mourn, her brothers Lincoln Coombs (Sandra) of St. John’s and Alex Coombs of Scarborough, ON, her very special sister-in-law Ruby Murray (Stuart), who was like a daughter to her, and sisters-in-law Margaret Coombs, Guelph, ON, Clara Coombs, Oro Medonte, ON, Joan Coombs, Toronto, ON, Margaret Butler, Upper Island Cove, NL, and brothers-in-law Perce Mossop, Richmond Hill, ON and Arch Butler (Shirley), Torbay, NL. She is also fondly remembered by a large number of nieces and nephews in both the Coombs and Butler families.
The most important things to Vera were her family and her faith. She was a very Godly and loving woman who opened her heart and her home to so many and touched the lives of many people. She was selfless and generous to a fault and a very loyal and loving friend.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the staff at Chancellor Park for the excellent care she received there for the last 7 years of her life and also to the Ross Family Medicine Clinic, especially Dr. Roger Butler and Nurse Practitioner Denise Cahill for the many years of wonderful medical care they provided prior to her entering the nursing home.
Visitation will be at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, followed by a funeral service in Barrett’s chapel at 2:00pm and then proceeding to the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road for interment. All COVID-19 protocols will be followed. As per governemnt of NL regulation, proof of vaccination is required to attend. Donations in her memory may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland
