It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Anita Rice announces her passing from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the age of 85 years.
Anita was born on August 23, 1937 to Cyril and Winnifred Rice in Bear Cove, NL. She met and married the love of her life, Sidney Rice and together they had four children. She lost her beloved Sidney when she was only 39 years old in 1977. With four children to raise, Anita fought for everything she had. She was a proud woman and did everything for her family. She would bake bread and sell the loaves to support her children. She even got her driver’s license to prove people wrong and made one trip to Baie Verte and that was it. Anita stayed in her own home right up until she couldn’t keep up with the home maintenance anymore, then moving in with Norma for three years before entering White Bay Retirement which was her final home. Anita was a passionate knitter and she continued right up until she was admitted to hospital. Many a pair of socks or vamps can be found right across Canada that were made with her hands.
Anita will be forever loved and greatly missed by her family and friends.
Left with fond and loving memories are her children, Garland Rice (Vera), Gregory Rice (Catherine) and Norma Miller (Terry); grandchildren, Ian (Lindsay), Tyler (Roselyn), Gregory (Sarah), Cassandra (Troy), Amanda and Blair (Stephanie); greatgrandchildren, Tyler, Anthony, Mya, Amauni, Parker, Alexa, Andrea, Kaedence, Kennedy, Skyler, Kaleb, Kira and Makala; brothers, Ernest Rice, Pleaman Rice (Laura) and Bart Rice (Linda); sister, Joan Banks, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Anita is predeceased by her husband, Sidney Rice; son, Wade Rice; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Rice; parents, Cyril and Winnifred Rice; brothers, Albert Rice, Wilf Rice and Gord Rice.
Public visitation took place from St. Swithin’s Anglican Church, Seal Cove, NL on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 7-9 pm, continuing on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
The funeral service took place from St. Swithin’s Anglican Church, Seal Cove, NL on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 2 pm with Reverend Madonna Boone officiating. Interment followed from St. Swithin’s Anglican Cemetery, Seal Cove, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anita’s memory to St. Swithin’s Anglican Church, Seal Cove, NL A0K 5E0.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Emergency Department, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor in Mom’s final hours, the nurses and doctors at the Emergency Department , Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, the paramedics in Baie Verte, and finally to the wonderful staff and management at White Bay Retirements who cared for our mom for the past 2-3 years. The ladies go above and beyond for the residents and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
