Obituary
Angela Mary Lukowski (Soper) passed away on October 22, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 16, 1947, in Ilford, Es, England to Jeffrey (Jellicoe) Soper and Anne Soper (McCloud). Angela emigrated to Canada with her parents in 1953 and met her husband Mark in 1978, to whom she was happily married until her death. Angela is survived by Mark, her husband of 42 years, and siblings Steve (Joy), Chris (Viviana) and Valerie Cant (Norm). Angela was a loving mother to her children Elaine (Iain Robinson) and Brent (Nicola Felice), a cherished aunt to Ken, Liana, Trevor, and Kathryn, and beloved Nanny to Harlow.
Angela resided in Burlington, Ontario for her childhood with her dedicated, supportive parents until she left for university. Using her degrees from Western University (1969) and University of Toronto (1972), Angela became a teacher at M.M. Robinson High School in Burlington, teaching Business. After Elaine’s birth, Angela dedicated her life to her family, supporting her husband in his career and ensuring her children had a diverse upbringing. Angela was her children’s biggest supporter. She encouraged Elaine and Brent to pursue their interests and ambitions, and tirelessly ensured that Elaine and Brent got to all their activities, often with a home cooked meal in transit. Following the birth of Harlow, Angela found immense joy in being Nanny and doting on her beloved granddaughter.
Angela was an avid volunteer, dedicating her time to her children’s activities as well as March of Dimes, St. Michael’s Church, Mary Mother of God Church, St. Vincent de Paul, Oakville Curling Club, Appleby College and the University Women’s Club of Oakville. As a devoted Christian, she strived to follow in Christ’s footsteps and serve others. Angela was known for her integrity and kindness while also finding humour in many life situations. Often, she was caught laughing at her own jokes.
Angela had a magnetic personality and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Prioritizing health and fitness, Angela had many active interests throughout her life, including skiing (both cross-country and downhill), biking, hiking, and found a love for curling later in life. As an astute bridge and board-game player, her playing skills were sometimes underestimated but frequently she was a gracious victor. She was often sought out for her sewing advice and took considerable pride in her work that she shared with loved ones. Angela was proud of her travels, both domestic and international. Angela and Mark were avid campers and found a community in being Alto trailer owners.
Angela made an impact on countless people through her natural warmth and compassion and will be fondly remembered by those she was in contact with.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Vincent de Paul at Mary Mother of God Parish.
Visitation in Angela’s memory will take place at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block East of Kerr Street) Oakville, on Sunday October 30th from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm.
