Alice’s Obituary
Alice Bernice MacRae- 98 Oliver, Colchester Co., passed away peacefully November 8, 2022 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche.
Born in Wentworth, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Swallow) Gower.
Alice was a proud veteran, serving in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) in hospital administration in Holland, Belgium and England. She was past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Tatamagouche as well as the Ladies Auxiliary. She spent time volunteering with many local groups including Christmas Index, Children’s Aid Society as well as the Canadian Cancer Society. An avid quilter, she made hundreds of beautiful quilts over the years.
She is survived by son, Stephen (Ellen) Swan, Truro; daughters, Lorraine (late Laurie) Dawson, North River, Catherine MacLeod, Oliver, step-son Malcolm MacRae; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; brother, Norman Gower, Wentworth; sister, Elsie Mae Tattrie, North River; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her three husbands, Wilbert Swan, Francis MacLeod and Angus MacRae; daughter, Sharron Reade; son, Randall Swan; brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Gerald and Walter Gower; sisters, Frances Miller and Myrtle Sprague.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 13 at 2pm in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche with Rev. Connie McNamara officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Lockerby Cemetery.
Donations in Alice’s memory may be made to the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital or charity of one’s choice.
