Aldrich William Misner 19432022

Aldrich William Misner
1943-2022
It is
with sadness that we announce the passing of Aldrich on Sunday,
December 25, 2022 in the QEII-V.G. Hospital, Halifax. He was born in
Black Rock, Kings Co. on April 24, 1943 to the late William Misner and
Louise (Balsor) Misner Brown. He was also predeceased by his
stepfather, Morley Brown; sisters and their spouses, Thelma (Leroy)
Fanning and Ardyth (Robert) Arnold; brother, Lawrence; stepbrother and
his wife, Gary (Katherine) Brown; and brothers-in-law, Arthur Patton,
George Steeves and Robert Cunningham.
Aldrich
is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann (MacKay) Misner; daughter,
Arlene and husband Hartley MacArthur; sisters, Eunice Patton, Wanda
Harding (John Cote) and Wilma (John) Hazelwood; sisters-in-law, Joan
Steeves and Audrey Cunningham; as well as 15 nieces and nephews and
many special cousins.
After
many years working in the orchards at Keith Boates’ farm in
Woodville, Aldrich started his career with ACA Co-op driving the oil
truck, then installing and repairing farm equipment and later
accepting the position managing the Farm Equipment division at the ACA
retail store in New Minas. During this time, he made life-long
friendships with many fellow employees and
farmers.
Aldrich
and best friend Ron Rafuse maintained a hobby farm with beef cattle
and apple orchards. Their two families were inseparable whether they
were snowmobiling, camping, barbecuing, or enjoying some quiet time
around the kitchen table.
Later in
life he was employed by his close friend, David Fillmore at Willowdale
Farms in Windemere where he continued to create many lifelong
friendships.
He
mentored many young people in his careers and in «teaching them
the ropes» made lasting friendships, and the continuing visits
evidenced these enduring ties.
Aldrich
was always busy either fixing things, building something, creating
something from nothing or helping out his family, friends and
neighbours right up to the Fall of this year. A number of years ago,
with no knowledge of computers or even how to use one, he decided
maybe he should have one. Being just like her father, Arlene also kept
everything that might be of use someday so there were a few
non-operable PCs in the basement. Along with one he found along the
side of the road during clean-up, he took pieces from each to create
one that worked!
Aldrich
and wife Ann became avid horse people when they gave into their young
daughter’s plea for a pony. Things snowballed from there
taking them to all the Quarter Horse shows across the Maritimes each
weekend every Summer. Being a talented hobby photographer with his own
dark-room, Aldrich began taking photos of the horses at the shows and
was often requested in the show ring to capture the presentations to
the winners.
Aldrich
loved being in the woods, cutting trees, sawing out lumber with the
Woodmizer, going for walks or just enjoying the beauty of nature.
Having a son-in-law who also enjoyed the same things and talents,
Aldrich would be up early each Saturday and Sunday morning with tool
belt in hand ready to help build/fix/cut whatever the project was on
the go that day. Together they built Arlene and Hartley’s
home and later a home for himself and Ann also in Coldbrook. He
enjoyed many day trips with Ann touring the Valley and South Shore
picnicking and taking photos.
Some of
his most memorable excursions took him to Florida with farmer George
Foote to bring a load of bees back to Woodville, a farm equipment show
in Georgia one January at a time when there was a skiff of snow that
shut the city down (he wanted to show them what a real snow storm
looked like), a trip to Texas with Bobby Kidston to transport a horse
back to Nova Scotia, two trips with Dave Fillmore to the trout fishing
camps in Labrador and he loved taking the camper to Country Harbour to
spend time with Jim and Lorraine Tate and all of Ann’s
extended family.
Aldrich
was a veteran firefighter serving 35 years with the Waterville
& District Fire Department at the Woodville station. He held
positions as Lieutenant, Captain and President during that
time.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside
service will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations in
memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of
choice. Funeral arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
