Aimee Alexandra Taylor
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Aimee Alexandra Taylor, who died peacefully in the arms of her family, from complications related to cancer treatment. Aimee was born on March 18, 1980, in Redhill, England. She moved to Canada at age 2, and lived in B.C. until her death on September 26, 2022.
Aimee grew up on the North Shore, where she was an active member of her school and community, both as an accomplished athlete and skilled musician. Her family enjoyed hiking and camping and all the natural beauty this province has to offer.
She studied at UBC, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. She later went on to complete The Writer’s Studio program at SFU. She earned many musical and writing accolades and her contributions in both domains had a profound impact on those who had the honour and joy of experiencing them.
Aimee was an avid cyclist who loved the time she got to be on the bike and who adored her cycling community. She rode with her amazing team from Callanish Society on many occasions, most notably for the Whistler Fondo and for the Kluane Chilkat International Relay from the Yukon to Alaska.
Aimee’s greatest desire in life was to become a mother, a dream she fulfilled in 2013. She was then diagnosed with terminal cancer only months later, and she dedicated the next 9 years to raising her daughter while pursuing treatments that would allow her more time to watch her child grow into a beautiful, kind, generous, loyal, joyous, and bright 9-year-old. Aimee’s legacy will live on through Alexa.
Aimee is survived by her wife, Sher, and daughter, Alexa, by her parents, Elma and Julian, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy and Mischa, and Angus and Nadja, along with her 7 nieces and nephews, Sophie, Eva, Luca, Tessa, Tytan, Nashten, and Levan. She had a huge and remarkable community whom she loved, and she would list each of you here if space allowed. Family was everything to her, both blood kin and her chosen family.
In her final days, when Aimee was reflecting on her life, she said she wanted people to know that “Although I had a tough life, I had a good life, too.” Aimee’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver on November 1, 2022, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Callanish Society (callanish.org).
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Aimee Alexandra Taylor 2022..
