Agnes’ Obituary
Agnes Ackerman (nee: Eiswerth) was born Nov 13, 1943 in Holdfast, Saskatchewan and passed away Aug 22, 2022 at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her parents Ferdinand and Rose Eiswerth; sister Terry Jolly; brothers Robert and Andrew and daughter Jacquie Ackerman.
Agnes is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Richard, son Patrick (Donna); grandchildren Carson (Angela) and Skylar; her sisters Laura Jaeger, Marie Gemmell, Sharon (Gary) Webb and brother Ron (Ruth) Eiswerth and numerous nieces and nephews.
Agnes was raised on a farm near Dilke, Saskatchewan. As a child she loved to go fishing with her father and help her mother in the garden. She told many stories of fencing in the valley with her dad, looking after livestock and smoking fish. She learned to bake from her mother.
Agnes loved to do crafts. She was always making something and repurposing pallets for fences, outdoor furniture, or a bar for parties. She would knit or crochet just about anything. When she and dad went south to Arizona, she would make hundreds of “towashies” (to washy the dishes) and give them away to people at random. Early years she would do ceramics or oil paint pictures, cream cans and just about anything else.
She loved to garden! She always had a large garden (or two) and would freeze, can and pickle everything. The shelves were always full of preserves. She loved to go wild saskatoon berry picking with neighbors and dad. She would come back with five-gallon pails of berries and say “never know, there might not be any next year.”
She always decorated her house for every holiday and season. Special figurines, plates, placemats, napkins, displays, bears and a cement goose dressed for the occasion.
Agnes loved to go to Yuma, Arizona and spend the winter with their “snowbird friends”. Even there, everything was set and decorated for the occasion. They would host many parties every winter with food and of course music.
Agnes’s hands were never idle, and no work was beneath her. She would always say “sleep is overated”.
Agnes enjoyed her family the most! Big celebrations and meals for every occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, harvest, seeding). It didn’t matter the number of people or time of year. We would always be together, almost daily, eating meals as a family. She loved having her grandchildren (Carson and Skylar) home and listening to their adventures.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish in Moose Jaw, 1064 3rd Ave. NW, on Friday Aug 26 at 10:30 am. Followed by lunch in the parish hall. Interment to follow at Chamberlain cemetery after the reception. Everyone is invited to the farm following the interment.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw, Box 334, Moose Jaw, Sk. S6H 4N9 or the Chamberlain Cemetery Fund, Box 2, Chamberlain, SK. S0G 0R0. In living memory of Agnes, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd.
