Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald ‘Ron’ Roy announce his peaceful passing at Bobby’s Hospice on Saturday, March 12, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Cancer. Ron was born in Allardville, NB, and was the eldest son of eight children. He was the son of the late Romeo and Leocadie (Guignard) Roy.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Norma Jean (Guthrie) Roy, sons Michael (Cheryl) of Fredericton, Mark (Elaine) of Welland, ON, the joy of his life his four grandchildren; Samuel, Rachel, Jaimes and Kendra, sisters; Annette Doucet (Ron) of St Anne’s, NB, Andrea Duguay(Larry) of Beresford, NB, Geraldine Roy (Chester Garvie) of Carlo, NB, Diane Davidson (Jacques) of Nigadoo, NB, his brothers; Philippe Roy (Lucille) of Ottawa – Hull, Raymond Roy (Leona – deceased) of Orleans, ON, Claude Roy (Manon) of Bathurst, NB, June Roy (Lorne) of Greely, ON, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ron had a very strong Faith in God. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for many years where he served as an Altar Server, Lector, Sacristan, a Funeral Server and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #937. As a child Ron was also an Altar Server at Christ du Roi Church in Allardville, NB. Ron was also in the first group of Boy Scouts in Allardville and still has his hat and badges.
Ron was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens, and he also enjoyed watching tennis matches. He was very musical and could play several different instruments. He enjoyed camping in his younger years and travelling to visit his family when he could.
Ron was employed many years in men’s clothing stores and was especially good in made to measure suits. During his career he had also worked at Sears.
We would like to thank the many doctors who took care of Ron over the years especially Dr. A. Ross, all the wonderful doctors and staff at Bobby’s Hospice, Extra Mural, Shelley, Twila and Vanessa, Father Doug MacNeill, Msgr. B. Sheehan and Fr. K. Weir for all the care they gave to Ron. « Thanks to everyone for the phone calls, encouragement, drives for me, prayers for Ron and me, too numerous to mention, but you know who you are. I will never forget your kindness. »
Ron will be greatly missed by all and will always remain in our hearts.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), with the Knights of Columbus holding their Tribute Service on Tuesday at 1:50pm followed by visiting until 4pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 12:10pm from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The family has requested those attending visitation and the Mass of Christian Burial to wear masks and practice social distancing. Interment will take place St Joseph’s Cemetery in the Spring. Remembrances made to Bobby’s Hospice, or the Cathedral Restoration Fund would be appreciated.
