January 6th, 1938 – December 20, 2022
The rock of our family died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Frank’s passing leaves a huge void in our hearts. Frank will be dearly missed by Kathleen, his wife of 60 years; daughter Eileen (George); and sons Peter (Ellen) and Christopher (Martha). Lovingly referred to as Pops by his grandchildren, Frank will always be remembered by Tyler, Adam, Nick, Joshua, and Jacob. Frank was predeceased by his parents George and Ada Butts. He was brother to the late Doris, George, Kath, and Fred; he is survived by his sister Ada.
Frank was born in Birmingham, England and defined himself as a legendary athlete while participating in many sports growing up. His exploits on the soccer pitch eventually led to Frank being recruited by West Bromwich Albion FC. Typical of Frank’s adventurous nature he emigrated to Canada for new challenges instead of fulfilling a promising career as a professional athlete in England. Upon moving to Toronto Frank soon married Kathleen Shelton on November 17th, 1962 and started our family.
Frank was a self-made businessman combining his monumental work ethic and talent as a graphic artist to establish his company Assignment Graphics Limited. Frank successfully owned and operated the expanding business until his retirement.
Dad was a renaissance man in the truest sense. He was an elite athlete while at the same time cerebral; he was a talented artist, a successful businessman, an avid reader, a music lover, a theater and moviegoer, an adventurer. In his 50’s Dad fulfilled a dream to trek Mount Everest; an adventure Pops inspired in his eldest grandchild Tyler who fulfilled his own trip to Everest earlier this year. Dad made dreams come true.
Most of all Dad was a family man who had an immense capacity to love and fiercely protect his family. As our profound sadness dissipates over time our tears will be replaced with smiles and laughter as we remember all the great times with Dad.
The family wishes to thank all the amazing staff at Shepherd Village for their kindness and devotion to caring for Dad during his stay there.
As per Frank’s wishes no funeral will be held. Instead a gathering to celebrate the life of FAB will be organized at a later date. In lieu of flowers Frank preferred donations be made to the Salvation Army.
