SPARKES – Mary Ethel
A truly good soul left us on December 12, 2022 when Ethel was taken to her heaven. She passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Lifecare with her family by her side. Ethel was born in Brigus, Newfoundland on February 15, l947. She was the eldest of 5 children of Roy and Ethel Sparkes. Ethel is survived by her life partner and best friend Wilf. Coulson, step children Michael (Leanne) and Melanie Coulson, brother Stephen (Lynn) St. John’s Newfoundland, Wayne (Diane) and sister Marjorie (Andre Belair) Rouyn Noranda PQ as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother David. Ethel attended McGill University prior to a career at IBM. After moving to Brantford she worked for almost 20 years at Assante Capital Management. Ethel was a kind caring lady who really enjoyed life. She was a gourmet cook, a talented knitter, had the skill and patience to do needlepoint, the determination to learn to ski in mid life, to be physically fit and possessed a strong desire to look after her family. Ethel fought a long and frustrating battle with Alzheimer’s. We are so fortunate to have great resources in this Community to assist those affected directly and indirectly with such illnesses. We thank Dr. Hadley, the folks at the Alzheimer’s Society, the LHIN and the great people at the Adult Recreation Therapy Center and the John Noble Home Day and Stay Program for all the assistance they gave us and the kindness and thoughtfulness they showed Ethel. The comfort and care she received when she entered long term care at St. Joseph’s Lifecare was far beyond our expectations. A big “THANK YOU” to Dr. Kalra, Kelly and the wonderful staff on Bluebird. The family invite friends to visit at McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road N. Brantford on Friday December 16, 2022 from 5 – 6:30 pm. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 6:30 pm. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Oakhill Cemetery, in lieu of flowers, a donation to any of the above organizations would be greatly appreciated.
