Obituary of Carole Joan Ross
It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Carole Joan Ross (nee Payne) December 11, 2022 in the loving arms of her family.
Carole was born September 8, 1942 in Liverpool, England to William & Lillian Payne (who predeceased her). She was the 2nd of 4 daughters, the eldest Gillian Violet predeceased her in infancy.
She immigrated to Canada in 1954 where she and her family found their forever home on Edgewood Avenue in Brockville, Ontario.
Carole married her soul mate and love of her life, John Shaw Ross on July 2, 1966 in Brockville, Ontario. Their love endured much but at its core was pure, honest and real providing them both with 56 years of comfort, laughter and above all, support. This showed her children the true meaning of marriage, to quote Carole “ it has been my absolute joy, my marriage to your father, the secret to marriage, any marriage, is patience and acceptance”
Carole and John raised their children first on Salisbury Avenue in Brockville and in 1973 they moved their young family “North” to North Augusta into the little red and white house on the Branch Road. It was there that they soon discovered that the village was truly a “village” of support, love and friendship where everyone shared in raising children in safety and cohesion.
Carole quickly became immersed in life within the Village, creating and sustaining life long friendships. She became an avid volunteer for many years as an active member of the North Augusta Recreation Committee, the local United Church and with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Augusta Fire Department of which John was a proud member.
Carole raised her children through example, teaching them the value of hard work, honesty, commitment, volunteerism and devotion to family and faith. She was a caring friend to many in the village, and beyond, often holding coffee time in her kitchen with friends and family who needed a friendly ear, an enduring hug or simply just the gentleness of listening support.
Her absolute joy and source of great pride was her children. She supported and encouraged their various activities and school work and offered loving support and safety to their many friends over the years. There was always a place at her table and a pillow to lay their heads.
There will always be a hole in our hearts with the loss of our beloved Carole. The love we all have for her will never die as that love lives forever within all who loved and knew her.
Carole Joan Ross is survived by her soul mate and best friend, John Shaw Ross, her beloved children, Kristen (Rob) Horton, Darren ( Donna) Ross, Brooke (Paul) Heisel. Her grandchildren and their partners, Taylor Garswood, Jessica Almond, Curtis Ross, Spencer Ross, Meg Heisel, Aryn Garswood, Zach Horton, Sam Heisel and Ben Ross. Her great grandsons Jack Almond and Brooks Horton. Her beloved sisters Valerie (Jerry) Eligh, Jennifer (Don) Oddie as well as many nieces and nephews.
We, the loving family of Carole thank everyone with deepest appreciation for reaching out to us during Carole’s short illness. Your kindness is immeasurable and will always be remembered. We also wish to thank Dr. Andrew Jordan for his extraordinary care and support of our wife and mother in her final days and for arranging her final transfer back to BGH Palliative. The many nurses and staff who cared for Carole and last but not least, Geri Johnston for blessing our Carole in her final hours. We know you helped her in her final journey.
At Carole’s request there be no public services or viewing. Her family simply asks you to keep her in your thoughts and to plant some flowers to support the bees which she so loved seeing in her own beautiful garden.
“ I would give anything
For one last touch
One more softly spoken word
One more lingering kiss
One more moment to tell you
I loved you so much
Our hearts may be broken, but
You live on
In our souls
In our laughter
In our minds and souls
Our hearts are full with the love you gave us”. -kh
Fly high our beloved. Leave your pain here. You are free. Good night. God Bless
