Joseph Kitson Pelton
August 25, 1944 – November 22, 2022
Joe came into this world on August 25, 1944, at a whopping 12 pounds. He was the fourth child of eight born to Isobel and David Pelton. At an early age, the family moved from Chelan, Saskatchewan to the North Thompson Valley, where he would spend the rest of his years. From a young age, Joe learned the importance of hard work, and with an entrepreneurial spirit he started his own logging company in the early 1970’s. During the next two decades, Joe created a beautifully blended family, including his wife Teri and six children. After retiring from the logging industry, Joe and Teri owned and operated Lacarya Golf Course. This allowed them the opportunity to spend their winters in Yuma, Arizona which became their second home and where they made many lifelong friends.
“You won the lottery,” were words that Joe used often to describe his gratitude for living in Clearwater. Although he traveled to many beautiful places in his life, Clearwater was “God’s Country” in his eyes. Joe had a lot of ‘loves’ in his life, and he avidly pursued every one of them: fishing, camping, golfing, traveling, country music, woodworking, playing poker and old cars. Joe loved spending time with friends and family, sitting around a campfire, and telling stories. His amazing memory allowed him to capture details with remarkable accuracy. Joe was generous, honest and he was an eternal optimist.
Joe was predeceased by his parents David and Isobel Pelton, his step-father Otto Zral, his brother Mike Pelton and his nephew Marvin Pelton. He leaves behind his loving wife and life partner of 38 years, Teri Pelton, and children Danny Pelton (Shelley), Debbie Leslie (Troy), Julie Patterson (Devin), Vince Pelton (Jackie), Terry Pelton, Marina Pelton (Domonic), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe will be greatly missed by so many. As a survivor of polio, he valued the importance of the medical care that he received as a young boy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vancouver Children’s Hospital.
There will be a Celebration of Life to honour Joe on July 15, 2023.
