It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gene Murdock Kelly, husband of Ann Burns Kelly, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on October 26, 2022, at the age of 75.
Born in Newcastle, he was the son of the late Murdock and Betty (Manderville) Kelly.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Ann; daughters Lisa Lubas (Richard) of Bridgewater, MA and Lana LeGresley of Fort McMurray, AB; two sisters Lee White (Ronald) of Saint John, NB and Patricia Sweeney (Patrick) of Moncton, NB.; and the light of his life, his three grandchildren Meghan and Michael Lubas and Grace LeGresley.
Besides his family, Gene had a love for his community. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church and The Derby Senior Citizens. He served on various committees over the years. He also had a love for Politics which was evident in his active support of the PC party. Sports were also an important part of Genes life. Whether it was watching, playing or coaching.
Gene was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends or strangers alike. His quick wit and boisterous laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive visitors Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Northumberland Funeral Home from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 11 am, at St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, in Renous, with Fr. Paul Doucett officiating.
The Derby Senior Citizens are asked to meet at the church at 10:30 am to form a guard of honour.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery, the Josie Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.
