Wright –
The death occurred
peacefully, at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Friday,
September 23, 2022, with his family present, of John
« Charles » Wright, age 92 years. Charles was born in
Searletown, PEI to his parents Walter and Helen (Bishop) Wright. He
lived in Searletown, in the house where he was born, into his
80th
year then he moved to Summerside to a senior’s apartment on
Lefurgey Avenue. Four years ago he moved to community care at Andrews
of Parkhill. He enjoyed his time there making friends with staff and
residents alike. He especially enjoyed the great
meals.
Charles is survived by his brother
George Wright (Phyllis), Waterford, ON, numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Mary
Wright Bradshaw (late Reginald), Ruth Wright MacDonald (late Norman),
sister-in-law Marie (Shea) Wright and his niece Marylea
MacDonald.
Charles was a dairy farmer from a
young age having been gifted a calf (Maud Abber Kirk) at the age of
12. His Dad, Walter, paid $12 for that calf! His dairy herd (Wrightway
Holsteins) was mainly built from that first calf since she produced at
least 6 heifers. He said he spent most of his dairy farmer’s
life searching for a perfect cow and Wrightway Star Elizabeth R was
that cow and a big milk
producer.
Charles was a great historian and
very proud of his United Empire Loyalist Wright heritage. He had his
DNA done and enjoyed hearing from distant relatives about his
connections on all sides of his family tree (Bishop, MacLure, Trueman,
Black, etc.). His mind remained very keen to the end as he recalled
numerous stories and events to family and
friends.
Charles was a very generous man. Over
the years he often organized family and friends reunions and quite
often paid for all attendees. In 1985 the Prince County Hospital
Corporation (now PCH Foundation) made him a life member for his many
monetary contributions to
PCH.
He had a great sense of humour. He
took a keen interest in politics and sports. He was an avid reader and
loved murder mysteries. In younger years, he was a member of the
Bedeque Beavers hockey team. He was a diehard Toronto Maple leaf fan
but his favourite hockey player in recent years was Sydney
Crosby.
The family would like to extend
sincere thanks to Staff and Residents at Andrews of Parkhill, the
Prince County Hospital, in particular, the Emergency Department Staff
and Drs. J Reid and M Kutcher. Also special thanks to Dr. Paul Kelly
who was his family doctor for many years. Dr. Kelly affectionately
called him Charlie.

Cemetery. Visiting hours on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until
