December 14, 1959 – September 12, 2022
It is with deep sadness the family of Jim Cairns of St. Albert, Alberta wish to announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 62 years.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Celeste; his mother Phyllis; children Matt (Dawn), Chelsea (Mike), David (Lara), Jenny (Brad), Amanda (Matthew); grandchildren Chloe (Adrian), Radley (Mackenzie), Trey, Hailey, Avarie, Holly, Ethan, Elijah, Derrick, Isaac; siblings Gail (Ernie), Cindy (Frank), brother Martin (Lori); his ex-wife Deb as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was pre-deceased by his father Albert (Al).
Jim was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. and in 1963 the family moved to St. Albert. After graduating from high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined CNR. There he started his career as an Electrician and retired after more than 35 years of dedicated service.
Jim’s interests included music of every genre, photography, dirt bikes, backpacking and camping. He loved to spend time at “The Farm” with family and friends. Jim also spent a lot of time on what he called “Pondering and Puttering.” He was a man of few words but when he spoke, we all listened.
His great achievements were his children and creating adventures for those lucky enough to spend time with him.
Jim could miraculously produce whatever you needed. He would look in his backpack or truck and come up with the desired object. This never failed to amaze all kids, big and small.
Jim was also known as the “King of Snacks”. If there was an outing and Jim was around, you knew that the snacks would be great. His cupboard, never bare, would have all the tasty treats your heart desired, the kind your Mom would never have in the house. He created his own mixture of jam (Jim’s Jam) and trail mix. Frozen Nanaimo Bars were always available.
Jim would have a vision and wouldn’t rest until it became reality. He always went above and beyond. And of course, he had knee pads everywhere, he thought they were the best things ever and would buy them for everyone.
Through all Jim’s medical issues, he came back from each challenge even stronger. He never complained, he would say, “It is what it is.” He handled each hurdle with grace and dignity.
Most of all, Jim was all about love, showing it in his giving and thoughtful ways. If we were all a little more like Jim, the world would be a better place.
He will be truly missed and loved forever.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de James Jim Edward Cairns 2022..
