Joyce Schofield
1930-2022
Our wise and wonderful mother passed away peacefully on September 5,
2022, nineteen years after her beloved husband, Bill. Celebrating her
great life are her four children: Jill (Mike Necesanek), Bill
(Margaret), Mary-Jo (Randy Arpin) and Bruce (Nel); grandchildren
Jessica (Taylor Northcott), Adam (Jessica Clark), Melissa, Andrew
(Sarah), Cody (Melisa), Sofie and Lilly; great-granddaughters Harper
and Zoey Northcott, and Alexie Arpin; and sister, Jean Mooney. Joyce
had many nieces and nephews across Canada and the US whom she loved
dearly.
Joyce started her illustrious career in teaching in New Denmark later
moving to Plaster Rock where she spent 35 years. She taught Grade 1
for over 17 years which gave her history with so many young people in
Plaster Rock. She was well known for her wonderful artwork and window
paintings which she so beautifully painted on her school windows every
holiday.
Joyce was a lifetime member of the United Baptist Church where she
taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was the Church Clerk for
almost 60 years finally retiring at 85. She ensured the church was
adorned with beautiful flowers each Sunday cutting fresh flowers from
her gardens.
When Joyce retired from teaching, she picked up a needle and the
fabric from her girl’s old dresses and followed in the family
tradition of quilting. Joyce stitched every stitch by hand never using
a machine. She loved her Wednesday morning quilting group and enjoyed
the friendship she had with the incredible quilting ladies. She also
loved her Thursday morning at the hairdressers and lunch with the
ladies at Dayna’s.
Joyce valued her family most in the world and enjoyed every minute of
living along the Tobique River. She enjoyed the summers most when her
sister, Jean would arrive back to the Tobique and the steady stream of
relatives would come to kayak, canoe, fish and mostly to eat her
cinnamon buns.
Joyce had a full and remarkable life, living it on her terms as an
independent, spiritual woman. She was driving her car and buying her
own groceries up until she became ill two months ago. Joyce was a
woman of faith and as her niece Monica commented, “in this age
of hypocrisy, she was a true believer who lived her beliefs.”
She had a dry sense of humour, a wit that is only seen in highly
intelligent individuals.
Joyce will be sorely missed by all she touched, and it was many. In
lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the United Baptist
Church or the Sisson Brook Women’s Institute.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, September 10,
2022 from 2-4 pm at the Plaster Rock United Baptist Church Hall.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Interment will be in the Plaster Rock
Community Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock, NB.
