Marina Giacon (née Binotto) passed away peacefully on the morning of September 2nd with family by her side, after a decade-long struggle with dementia and shortly after her 90th birthday, the last surviving of nine siblings. Marina came to Canada in 1957 as a young mother from Montebelluna, Treviso, Italy, to join her husband Guido. She embraced her new home, building a big community of close friendships, while working hard in and out of the house to support her five daughters. Marina always made time for the people in her life, whether family or friends new and old, and in her later years, as President of the St. Anne’s Italian Senior’s Club and a church volunteer, giving communion to the homebound. A skilled gardener, she was especially proud of her tomatoes and her roses. She loved her eight grandchildren fiercely and her family has grown to include seven great-grandchildren.
Marina is survived by daughters Dolores (Frank Del Vecchio), Maria (Luciano Cecchetto), Loretta (Bob Klecanda), Josie (Mark Cameron), and Anna; grandchildren Deanna, Adrian (Stefania), Dennis, Laura (Adam), Carling (Rory), Bryan (Cassie), Brandon, Tyler, and Jeremy; and great-grandchildren Sebastiano, Leo, Chiara, Daisy, Vittoria, Elena, and Vanessa.
