Obituary
Snyder; John Michael
Mike, beloved husband of Carolyn (nee Lashbrook), passed away at Spencer House, Orillia on Monday, August 15th, 2022 at the age of 84. Loving father of Sandy Drury, (Michael, predeceased), Jo-Anne Buchanan (predeceased) (Charles), Tina Hammell (John), Cheryl McKinlay (Bill), Jon Nancekievill (Caroline) and Christopher Nancekievill. Sadly missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Loved brother of Jill Burke (Jim, predeceased), Susan Creasor (Jim), Jenny Chivers (Larry), Kathy Hartnett (predeceased), Patti Carey (Jay, predeceased), Esther Cranney (predeceased) (Mike, predeceased).
Mike was born (at home) in a building that sat at 187 Front St, Orillia. His mother, who often would conceal her pregnancy so she could work, went on to give birth to 5 sisters. He had one brother that died as an infant. When his mother was pregnant with the last child, he said he would leave home if it was another girl. When the 6th sister arrived he changed his mind as he stated that “this one smelled really good”. He secretly adored each and every sister. His parents and siblings meant the world to him.
He met his first wife, Corinne Vollick, in his early twenties. Together they opened a TV repair business which served Orillia for many years. The enormous size of the TVS meant he had to come into the home to make the repairs. He enjoyed the interactions and close ties had he with the families. He loved to install and climb the tall antennas that were needed to make our TVs work. After 25 years of marriage, Corinne sadly passed. He was fortunate to meet his second wife, Carolyn Lashbrook, in 1984, to whom he remained married until his passing. He went on to raise a total of 6 children.
He owned a motorcycle until he was 80 years old, became a commercial pilot of small aircrafts, and played hockey until he was 79. He coached girls/ladies hockey and girls/ladies baseball for over 40 years. He was awarded life member of the Orillia Girl’s Hockey Association for his years of volunteer service to the league. He was present at the ball fields until he could no longer mobilize at the age of 81. His laughter and quiet, kind demeanor will be truly missed.
At Mike’s request, a private family service will be held. If desired, memorial donations to Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated by the family and may be made through the Mundell Funeral Home and messages of condolence at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
