Mamoru “Mamo Takenaka 2022

March 30, 1942 – July 30, 2022 (80 years strong). Born in Vancouver, BC and displaced by WWII, his family lived in two internment camps. New Denver, BC ultimately became his childhood home, where his brother Jun would be born. Mamo eventually headed to Calgary at the age of 18 to complete schooling at SAIT in the field of Telecommunications Technology and settled here for his remaining years. Gayle Allred and Mamo fell in love and married in 1964, buying their first and only home in Huntington Hills which they have enjoyed to this day (53 years). Mamo and Gayle had three beautiful girls, Kim, Melanie, and Pam and enjoy 4 grandchildren; Kyle, Leah, Evan, and Alyssa.
Mamo excelled at his life-long career with AGT/Telus as a central office technician and retired at 55. Throughout his life he put many talents to good use before, and after retirement. He had an unequivocal love of fishing and was self taught in the art of tying flies, building fly rods, ice fishing, and even taught fishing classes for the City of Calgary Outdoor Pursuits. He belonged to the West Winds Fly Fishers Club for many years, which supported Alberta Fisheries in numerous projects. Fishing wasn’t his only love. Throughout his life he played badminton, and more recently pickle ball, and he even boxed in his younger years. Mamo also had an undeniable knack and love of fixing things: anything! Gayle and Mamo volunteered at church as well as taking seniors on outings. He will be missed for many reasons, especially by his son-in-law Grant, who he treated like a genuine son and friend. Mamo passed away unexpectedly while at Magog Lake at Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, doing exactly what he loved, fishing! The family would like to thank those involved from the Assiniboine Lodge, Parks Canada, and others, for their assistance after his passing.
Donations to UNICEF in lieu of flowers for those wishing to contribute.
A service will be held on July 30, 2022, 11:00 am, at the LDS North Stake Center: 5927 Tipton Rd NW, Calgary, AB.
