Obituary
On July 3, 2022, Wilson Robert McQuay of Swan River, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years.
Wilson was born on February 4, 1943, in Treherne, Manitoba to Joe and Marjorie (Latimer) McQuay. He took his schooling in Arbroath, Treherne, Medora, and Deloraine Collegiate. He went to work at the head office of Manitoba Pool in Winnipeg, at the age of 17 and throughout his career he worked in Reston, Lavinia, Elphinstone, Durban and Swan River, where he retired in October 1999.
Wilson was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many camping trips with family and friends. Adeline and Wilson enjoyed traveling, visiting Germany, France, England and the western provinces and territories, as well as Alaska. The highlight of his year was the annual June fishing trip with the boys for almost 30 years, later being joined by his son and then grandson. He loved when his children and grandchildren joined him for hunting or fishing trips. Wilson enjoyed everything outside- quading, boating and snowmobiling, taking part in many races. He was a long time member of the Elks, volunteering at many events throughout his community.
Wilson loved to laugh and be around people, including his former coworkers and his many Valley friends. His eyes lit up when he talked about his family and he so enjoyed spending quality time with friends, especially his weekly visits to the Man Shack. He was always there to help out whenever needed, whether hauling cattle, spraying weeds or building trailers, Wilson could be counted on to be first in line to help.
Wilson is lovingly survived and will be greatly missed by his six children, Alan McQuay (Rose) of Red Deer and their children Darcy, Allie and Joe; Bruce McQuay (Carla) of Red Deer and their children Abigail and Jackson; Colleen McQuay of Barrie and her children Brett and Mathew; Pat Fisher of Winnipeg and her daughter Jessica; Sheryl Woidak (Rick) of Prince George and their children Anika and Keanna; and Robert Fisher of Winnipeg and his children Leslie and Brittany as well as seven great grandchildren; his sister Joan Brown of The Pas; sister and brother in law Bev and Oliver Bewcyk of Winnipeg; and four nieces and nephews. Wilson will also be greatly missed by cherished friends Derrick and Rhonda Lukey and their girls Shaelynn and Mackenzie; Bert Jones, Syl and Vivian Delaurier and Joel and Marilyn Delaurier.
Wilson was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Adeline; son Greg Fisher; mother and father Joe and Marjorie McQuay, brother in law Doug Brown and nephew Terry Bewcyk.
