Terrence «Terry»‘s Obituary
HILTZ, Terrence Oran “Terry” – Age 73, of Berwick, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Christmas Eve day, December 24, 2021, after a long battle with Lewy Bodies dementia and a type of blood cancer. Born in Kentville, he was the son of Oran and Elsie Hiltz of Ross Corner, North Mountain. Also known as Chief Hiltz, he operated a garage in Berwick and was known as one of the best mechanics around. Several years later he accepted a new job at Kingstec Campus, NSCC and retired after 30 years of teaching automotive and small engine repair, and coached hockey, wrestling and taught driver’s education. Terry spent many years serving the community as a member of the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department including several years as Chief. He poured his heart and soul into family and community and had a work ethic like no other. A man with a strong moral compass, integrity and a strong work ethic he thoroughly enjoyed seeing past students reminiscing over memories both good and bad. He believed that everyone should be treated fairly and to contribute to society as best as they can. A believer in the gospel message his family takes great comfort knowing he is in heaven with Jesus and pain free from the suffering he endured over the past several years. Surviving is his wife, Stephanie (Dorey), Berwick; parents, Oran (aka Bobby) and Elsie, who now reside at Grand View Manor; brothers, Clarence (Elaine), Ross Corner; Steven and Downey (Sue) Ottawa; and sister, Sharon (Mike) Keddy of Ross Corner; sisters-in-law, Linda Dorey, Berwick; Lois Dorey, Berwick; and brothers-in-law, Gary Zwicker, Chester; Rod Dorey, Berwick; daughter, Nikki, Benin, Africa; sons, Robbie (Natasha) Hiltz, Somerset; and Ryan (Angela) Hiltz, Rockland; grandchildren, Lainey, Luke, Jake and Josie Hiltz were the “apple of his eye” as he loved carrying on and teasing them. They loved every minute of it and gave it right back. A family graveside will take place at a later date in Berwick Cemetery. Special thanks to VON, the Kentville Palliative care team, Dr. Mercer, Berwick, Aunt Jean Reeves, brother-in-law, Rod Dorey, neighbors Phillip and Janice Wentzell, Gary and Pearl Galley, Bryce Johnstone, Donna Lee and cousin, Pam Lutz for all of the support. A private graveside service took place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, in Berwick Cemetery, Main Street, Berwick, with Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. Donations in memory may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses, Palliative Care team (Kentville), Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of choice.
