It is with sadness that we announce the
passing of Phyllis Jean Burke (Carr), 88,
of Amherst, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre. Phyllis was born in Parrsboro, a
daughter of the late Edward and Doris (McAloney) Carr.
Phyllis’ greatest joy was her
family and the time spent with them. She loved shopping trips, yard
sales and just a drive in the car. She was always ready to take anyone
on in a good game of cards, especially crib and 45’s. Her
spare time was spent reading, quilting and knitting and she managed to
keep her family supplied with quilts and knitted socks, mitts and
hats.
She made friends easily and will be
fondly remembered for her feisty and generous spirit.
Phyllis will be sadly missed
by her, daughter, Marcia Sparks (Doug) of Amherst; sons, Robert
(Susan) of Amherst and Barry (Cindy) of Tidnish; grandchildren, Deanna
(Jamie), Christopher (Julie), Amelia, Brittany (Alex), Hayley; great
grandchildren, Madelaine, Audrey, Cheyenne and Regan; a sister,
Mildred Carr-Shrum; a sister-in-law, Patsy Hacking, special niece
Sandra Dunphy as well as several nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, Phyllis was
predeceased by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Elaine Burke-Gauvin;
her siblings, Irene McCully, Betty Collinson and Charles
Carr.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst
(902-667-8777). Honouring Phyllis’ wishes, cremation has
taken place. An afternoon of remembrance will be held at the
funeral home on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 2-4 pm.
Donations in memory of Phyllis may be
made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
