Susan Brandt Braun Friday May 20th 2022

Susan Braun Brandt, aged 81, after a lengthy struggle with her energy level, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After a hard fall she was admitted to the St. Boniface General Hospital where she passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022.
Susan was born in Yarrow, BC on October 14, 1940. She thoroughly enjoyed her childhood and adolescence. She loved to read and soon discovered the benefits of a library. School was also a joy, both the classes and the friends she made. After graduating from Sharon Mennonite High School she went to the MEI, Abbotsford, for her grade 13. Susan then attended MBBI (now Columbia Bible College) for two years. Here she met Gilbert her future husband.
Both she and Gilbert attended Tabor College, Hillsboro, KS. They got engaged at Christmas of the junior year and married during the summer (August, 1962), returning for their final year. They graduated in 1963.
As a couple, they lived in numerous places, often because of work possibilities. After Gilbert graduated from the M.B. Seminary in Fresno, they moved to Hepburn, SK. Susan was school secretary and missions instructor. She was always busy with the children’s activities and interacted with the Bible Institute students. Because of her administrative gifts, Susan was encouraged to run for town council. She won and enjoyed that outlet very much.
After the couple moved to Winnipeg (1982), Susan became the secretary to the M.B. Conference minister and assistant for the M.B. Herald. Her last working years were spent as the editor of the Herald, a job she thoroughly relished. After retirement, Susan focused much more on her grandchildren. Each one brought such joy to her.
Susan also looked forward to travels throughout the world—China, Turkey, Greece, and Scandinavian and other countries—and local sites around Manitoba. Of course, the travels generally included an annual trip to the Fraser Valley to visit family.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Gilbert, their children, Daryl (Sharon) SuAnn (Terry) Goertzen, Jon (Stephanie Hanna); and also by her grandchildren, Michal Goertzen, Brodie Goertzen (Maya Diaz-Hammond), Neko Goertzen, Ezra Unger Brandt, , Ani Unger Brandt, Tenzing Goertzen.
She was predeceased by her parents, Johann and Susanna Brandt, and by her siblings, Harvey and Helen Braun, Jim and Elsie Brown, Ben and Lila Braun, Martha and Neil Peters, Mary and Al Stobbe, Dave and Mary Braun, Fred and Anne Braun.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m at River East Church, 755 McLeod Avenue, Winnipeg. The church requests that those who are attending the service to please wear a face mask.
