We are going to celebrate Gord Sharpe’s life the weekend of July 23 & 24.
Saturday, July 23 from 1-4 there will be a visitation reception at MacCoubrey’s Funeral home in Cobourg. Claudia , Garry and Colin welcome all to express their tributes to Gord from 2-3. After 4pm you are invited to Kelly’s Homelike Inn , in Cobourg, to continue sharing the memories.
Sunday 24 , 11:30 a.m. service at St. George’s Anglican Church in Gores Landing.
Following the service, a joyful outdoor gathering at the lake will take place. Some refreshments will be provided, however, please bring your preference. You may need a lawn chair, hat and sun protection.
Gord is very missed.. We look forward to being with you.
“GOD is GOOD without the O” Gord Sharpe
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce Gord Sharpe, the man who was grateful for all he had and could do, was unexpectedly taken from us on April 29, 2022 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Gord, the man who never said anything bad about anyone left his deeply loved wife Claudia Langlois far too soon. He left his son, Colin Seger Sharpe, in love and pride, as well as his father, Garry Sharpe (Nancy)with love and care. Gord has gone to be with his mother Brenda Sharpe (nee McCutchen) and he will become one of those angels who will watch over us.
Gord began his life in Cobourg. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed all games and sports, especially hockey. Playing on various local sport teams including the Cobourg Cougars, competition between the local community teams brought camaraderie, laughter, good times and great friendships. Memories of these events will continue to be shared by many. As soon as he was put in skates, Gord was a hockey player. Gord loved hockey, and he was good at it. He received a full athletic hockey scholarship to Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York and attended from 1981-1985. As a three-time NCAA Hockey Honour Roll and Team M.V.P. he was appointed Team Captain. In 1985, Gord attended Boston Bruins NHL Training Camp and played a few exhibition games for the Bruins. He continued to play this passionate sport in the British League. Clarkson coach Bill O’Flaherty said, “Gord held a special place in his heart, as a person and a player. He had magnetism that drew others to him.”
Gord managed to make everyday events come alive through his witty character and kind ways. He wanted to see everyone succeed in what they were good at. Gord believed that everyone always deserved a fresh start. Mistakes were part of life. Gord was a person who followed and created inspirational quotes to make life fulfilling and to overcome challenges. “Sometimes life kicks you in the face, and all I can say is there is hope and a reason – and being here is it!” Gord Sharpe.
Gord was a thinker, and a prankster who loved to have fun. On a whim, Gord could create a game for everyone to participate in and have belly laughs. He was the designer of “Arrive Alive” Board Game and author of “The First Book of 50 Party Games”. All to be used responsibly for entertainment. Gord took the opportunities to make life fulfilling. Gord was a devoted father to his son Colin Sharpe. Gord was committed to his son. He loved attending all of Colin’s events and he was so very proud of everything Colin did. Gord enjoyed teaching Colin hockey and inspired him to be his best. Gord also enjoyed taking Colin fishing, tubing, skiing and camping when Colin was a child, and as an adult their bond continued in friendship and sharing like interests. He was a good dad, teaching Colin many important lessons.
Gord enjoyed visits with his dad and Garry’s cat Smokey. They would watch games of golf and check and compare their golf pool, always curious about who picked the winner. The competition followed through to every other sport. Whenever Garry called, Gord was there. Gord was a son to be proud of.
Gord was loved by many family members and they too will miss him.
Gord’s life in Gores Landing with his wife, Claudia, did not involve hockey. They created a life that was together and independent, as each supported one another to follow dreams. Words cannot describe their loving journey full of spontaneous adventures, quiet time at home, and moments with fantastic friends. Rice Lake was very important to Gord. He enjoyed having Claudia paddle him in a canoe around Rice Lake. Gord swam in the lake from early May until November, and if the lake were frozen, he and Claudia would walk on it. Year round, Gord welcomed friends to share drinks and stories at the RV on the shore, be it sunrise or sunset. Gord had many interests involving the outdoors. Gord respected Claudia and her love of all creatures. He saw that each living being has a purpose. Gord accepted everyone as they are. Gord was a marvellous husband.
Despite having suffered a severe injury to his neck and shoulder, Gord’s attitude towards life remained vibrant. He focused on healing and his well being. Gord used Jack Burger Sports Complex for hydrotherapy during which he met many wonderful and supportive friends. Gord shared the challenges of others, and the blessings of good health were appreciated. Gord also enjoyed long hikes with his canine companions Cole and grand-puppy Lenny. Before Cole and the grand-puppy Lenny came, Gord’s favourite companion was Rocky. Together they would drive in the silver Mitsubishi Spyder convertible with the top down, wind in their hair and fur, as they shared the car’s license plate HOPE4ALL with every community. Gord always had an abundance of loving pets to share the couch with, and watch the game.

Gord’s Great-Uncle Melville Rutherford, from Lindsay, passed onto Gord a hickory hockey stick carved between 1852-1856. This valuable piece of hockey history, and other Clarkson Knights memorabilia can be viewed at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Mr. Sharpe will be missed by the many students and families past and present, who became familiar with his visits to Northumberland Montessori School. It was a treasure to observe Gord create a positive ambiance of intrigue, laughter, and excitement amongst the children. Gord’s blue eyes sparkled with mischief and people responded.
Gord’s life was private, his time was short, his love was deep. His genuineness was apparent. Gord’s motto was HOPE4ALL. Everyone will miss his constant, supportive presence, his silly pranks, impulsive surprises and the generosity that he still had to share with each person he encountered. Greatly missed will be the daily words of “I love you.” Some people pursue happiness, Gord created it. He loved us all, unconditionally.
There will be a service and celebration of life held at a later date.
