Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure,
You are loved beyond words. You’ll be missed beyond measure.
It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Yvette Gouthro. Yvette passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional hospital palliative care unit Sunday morning at the age of 89. She is survived by her children Kenneth (Arlene), Paul (Heather), Linda McGean (Wayne), Karl (Susie), Stephen (Norma), Bruce (Kim), Michael (Juanita), as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who loved their ‘Nanny Gouthro” to bits. She was predeceased by her husband Ambrose, children George and Lawrence, parents George and Delta (DeRoche) Boutilier and siblings Carleton, Shirley, Norma, Gerald, Rudolph, and Elaine.
In a family home forever filled with people coming and going, Yvette loved her kitchen table. If you could find a spot somewhere between the freshly baked goods, the crossword puzzle books, and the Cape Breton Post, you were always welcome. There, conversations and laughter flowed as freely as the always-full teapot, and the world was often set right with a compassionate ear. It was a safe haven, and Yvette was the gatekeeper. We will miss it so!
A devout member of the Holy Family Parish, her faith was unshakable, only to be equaled by her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She dabbled in art drawings and crafts, loved to knit, and as a young girl had a passion for horseback riding on the family farm. She was well known in the community for her easy-going, humble demeanor. Never one for the spotlight, she lead by example with her caring heart and giving nature.
You were our northern star, and will continue to be, as we who knew you best, will always carry you with us. Although our hearts are broken, we have so much to be thankful for. Until we meet again, all our love goes with you.
Visitation will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines on Thursday at 10:00 am. with Fr. Fabian Ihunegbo. Proof of vaccine will be required at the funeral home and the church.
