Obituary of Wouter Doornekamp
We are saddened to announce the death of Wouter on October 18, 2021 in his 93rd year at Portal Village in Port Colborne where he resided since the death of his wife Janna in 2010. He was born in Maarn, Netherlands on May10, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in 1953. He started farming with his wife in the seventies. He purchased property in Yuma, Arizona in 1996 and spent many winters there enjoying the sunshine and the friends made there for five months every winter. Wouter will be fondly remembered by his daughter Maartje Wright, his son Wally (Melanie) and his daughter-in-law Lynne. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Dianna Drzazga, Nedra, Carolyn, Danny, Grant Doornekamp, Brien Wright, Stephen Doornekamp and Melissa Bertoia and great grandchildren Nathan, Mia, Keala, Nolan, Willa, Dominick and Maverick. He leaves behind one sister Maartje who lives in the Netherlands. He is predeceased by his wife Janna, son John and son-in-law Shane Wright. He is also predeceased by his sisters Dirkje, Trijntje, Aleida as well as his brothers Willem, Melis and Marinus who all lived in the Netherlands.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne.
Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a private family graveside service at Maple Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Portal Village.
Cremation
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
