William’s Obituary
McIntyre, William Terrence (Terry) – Lake Deception, Middle Ohio
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Terry McIntyre announce his passing on October 9th, 2021 at Yarmouth Hospital.
Terry was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and remained a « Caper » at heart. He was the first born to the late William (Billy) & Genny McIntyre; raised in the town of Dominion, NS where he graduated from MacDonald High School. Upon graduation, Terry pursued a career in teaching and obtained his degree from the Nova Scotia Teachers College (Truro, NS), and went on to acheive a Masters in Education in the latter part of his career. Terry’s first teaching assignment was in Shelburne, NS which quickly became home for him. The stars aligned the day he met Nancy, who would become his wife of 46 years. Terry took the phrase « Bloom where you are planted » to the next level. He married Nancy and raised three wonderful sons in the Shelburne area. He embraced the community around him and spent his entire 35 year career in teaching and administration in Shelburne. In his younger years, he loved to play hockey, baseball and bowling and even tried boxing in NSTC and then went on to referee in hockey leagues around Nova Scotia.
As a teacher and principal in the community, he had the opportunity to teach many students of multiple generations. Terry was a member of the Shelburne County Arena Board of Directors, a founding member of the Middle & Upper Ohio Volunteer Fire Department and was proud to act as a Municipal Councillor for the District of the Municipality of Shelburne for almost 30 years. He crossed paths with many people throughout his life and made so many friends along the way. He loved to go home to Cape Breton several times each year, making sure he spent time with his parents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, siblings and friends on every trip. Despite having left his hometown at a young age, he was still a fixture at many local events through the years. Terry and Nancy loved to travel and would not miss any opportunity to go somewhere new or to visit someone they loved. Whether it was Cape Breton, Cuba or Australia – you can guarantee that Terry would leave with new friends wherever he went.
Terry enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and playing cards. He was such a people person that he kept track of birthdays and would call many of his friends and associates on their special occasions. He was also a talented musician who taught and entertained with his guitar throughout his life. He was never happier than with a guitar and a song to start the party and a card table for a round of Tarabish. Terry grew up in a full and busy household and loved nothing more than keeping the tradition alive with his own family. He welcomed every visitor who came through his doors with open arms and made sure everyone left with a full belly. He was known for his big breakfasts and the enormous pots of chili he would serve up to the boys and all their friends over the years.
Terry was predeceased by his parents Billy & Genny. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 46 years, Nancy (Smith) McIntyre; three sons of whom he was proud beyond measure – Peter (Dolly), Joey and Mark; two beautiful granddaughters who loved their « Grampy Mac » dearly, Katelynn and Jamielynn; sisters Adele (Robert) Watt, Joanne McIntyre, Mary Colleen (Kelley) DeSouza; brothers Francis Xavier (Paula) and Robert (Koren) and too many extended family to mention. We know that there will be many people who raise a glass in his honour this week. Remember him with a smile, as he would want.
