William Olin “Olie Gregan 2021

Obituary
William Olin “Olie” Gregan of Miramichi NB, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the age of 70. Born in Chatham, NB, on October 25, 1950, he was the son of the late William and Nina Gregan.
Olin was a well known hockey presence in the province in his early life. Throughout his hockey days, “Olie the Goalie” played for St. Thomas High in Chatham, St. Thomas University, and for several teams during the “glory days” of the NB Senior Hockey League. He and brother Laurie, often playing on rival teams, made for a lots of banter in the Gregan household! Olin was also an avid golfer and could be noticed on the course with the most colourful attire. He loved to travel and his enjoyment was truly about the journey, not simply the destination. He was a delight to travel with as he could make a simple drive be interesting and filled with laughter.
Subsequent to working with NB Power in Dalhousie, NB, Olin worked alongside his father in William Gregan Ltd. and eventually venturing into entrepreneurship for himself, procuring and processing seafood throughout Atlantic Canada. Olin was a strong steward of the fishing industry and developed deep friendships with many of the Captains, Crew Members and Processors with whom he worked. Following retirement from the fishing industry, Olin spent some time in the North and West, as a rotational worker.
Olie was a gregarious, generous and charming personality. He could bring a smile easily and was a wonderful storyteller! Olin’s culinary skills in the kitchen and barbecue were renowned and appreciated. He loved creating beautiful meals and nurturing loved ones through our bellies! He will be remembered by all for his quick wit, his gift of conversation, political banter, and his ability to make everyone around him feel welcomed and loved.
Along with many personal accomplishments, life was not without challenges. Olin faced these with tenacity and positivity. He celebrated 26 years of sobriety in January 2021. A milestone that he would consider his greatest achievement.
Olin, selflessly, spent a year and a half supporting the care of his parents, so they could remain at home. They adored having him home and he considered that time with them, an absolute gift.
Olin is survived by his sons, Tim (Jane) and Christopher (Kim); his four grandchildren: Sam, Audrey, Bridget and Addyson, whom he loved dearly and they will miss Poppy’s deep, infectious laugh. He is also survived by his sister, Carla Gregan Burns (Gordie); his nephew, Spencer (Lauren); niece, Tessa; nephew, Joey (Terri); many additional nieces and nephews that he missed and loved; his great-niece and nephew; and his close friend, Donna. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Laurie; and his wife, Mary Susan.
A funeral will be held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 140 King St., Miramichi on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11 AM with Father John Keoughan as Celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
