William Joseph « Bill » Anderson

William
« Bill » Joseph Anderson – lifelong resident
of Melanson, Kings County, passed away on November 7, 2021, at home,
at the age of 95. Born on December 19, 1925, he was the son of the
late Joseph and Laura (Smith) Anderson.
Born on the family
farm, Bill grew up surrounded by six sisters who he cared for very
much. In 1953 he married Charlotte (Lockhart), the love of his life,
and was the fifth generation to raise their family on the
farm.
Bill devoted his life
to farming. Starting out with beef and apples, Bill was the first to
introduce dairy to the farm. Farming alongside his sons for decades,
he helped grow the business to what it is today.
Bill was the patriarch
of the family, an esteemed member of the community and a storyteller.
He had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Valley and
always had a story to share.
Bill is survived by
his children, Brian (Jean), Bedford; Cathy (Rod) MacDonald, Gaspereau;
David (Tracee) and Willard (Karen Rogers), all of Melanson; and
Heather (David Campbell) Lewis, Lockhartville. Grampy will also be
greatly missed by his grandchildren, Jillian (Colin) Palmer, Megan
(Jeffery) Keough, Ian MacDonald, Emma Anderson, Jake and Lauryn Lewis;
and great-grandchildren, William and Owen Keough. He is also survived
by sisters, Dorothy Parsons, Marie (Charlton) Levy, Hope (Gerald)
Atkinson; sister-in-law, Marie (Joe) Seward; brothers-in-law, Bradford
and Robert Lockhart, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased
by his loving wife of 68 years, Charlotte; sisters, Pauline (Allison)
McDow; Doris (Raymond) Walker; June (Don) Kennie; and brothers-in-law,
Raymond Parsons; Malcolm and Boyd (Gloria) Lockhart; sister-in-law,
Marjorie Gaul; and grandson, John Anderson.
Visitation will be
held on from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in the White Family
Funeral Home, where the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m.
on Thursday, November 11, 2021, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. A
webcast of the service will be available at that time. Interment will
take place in the Gaspereau Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers,
donations in memory of Bill may be made to the IWK Foundation,
Alzheimer Society or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville. In accordance with the Nova Scotia
Proof of Full Vaccination Policy, proof of full vaccination will be
required to attend visitations, services and receptions held in or by
