Whitfield, Elizabeth Mary ‘Betty’
Betty Whitfield passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the age of 91.
Born in Euphrasia Township on February 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late George and Ivy (nee Jenkins) Hodgkinson.
Betty was predeceased by her husbands, Syd Clarke in 1963 and Gerald Whitfield in 1987.
She was the much loved mother of Barbara Canney and her husband Stephen Canney, Richard Clarke, was predeceased by her precious son David Clarke and will be remembered fondly by her daughter-in-law Alison Clarke. She will also be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren Tyler, Sam (Sarah), and Anthony Clarke, Jillian Davis Ozmond (Mathew), and Keara and Braeden Canney. Betty was the dear stepmother of Keith and Carol Whitfield, Wendy Whitfield, Laurie and Stephen Troutlein, Pamela and Louis Pezzotti, Lisa and Chris Hutton, Terri Lynn and Albert Geommi, Lezli Warburton, Karla and Tony Koch and will be remembered fondly by their families.
She was the much loved sister of Ken Hodgkinson (Marie) and Glenn Hodgkinson (Georgina) and was predeceased by her siblings Elvira Ormsby (late Lorne), Margaret Ormsby (late Lealand), Charlie Hodgkinson (late Lillian), Marion Eccles (late Lorne), and Dorothy Quigley. Betty will always be remembered as a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their families.
Betty worked for many years as a nurse at the Meaford Nursing Home. She loved to travel, knit and was a champion Scrabble player. She will always be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, and will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure of being her neighbour and friend.
A private family service will be conducted at Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford, with interment following at Lakeview Cemetery.
