Corey, Wayne
September 13, 1946 – November 29, 2021
Wayne Corey died peacefully, with Kitty by his side, after sustaining a traumatic fall last week. He leaves his love and life partner Kitty Carson and son Matthew Corey as well as his sister (Carol), brother in law (Blair Phillips) and their family, and extended Carson clan of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Wayne was born in Montreal to Coila and Reginald Corey, moving at age two to Ottawa where he had all his education, including Laurentian High School and degrees from Carleton and the University of Ottawa. He worked for the CRTC before becoming self employed in home renovations and his creative pursuits of music, poetry, art, film and theatre. Wayne and Kitty were brought together by mutual friends twenty one years ago and built a life together, involving their home at 102, travel, a love of opera, theatre and big dogs (Caleb and Heidi). Wayne loved their travel adventures – whether to the south of France, Ethiopia, Cuba, BC, NYC or their Cunard crossing. Although most comfortable in a flannel shirt and jeans, he was happy to don a tux or a smart blazer and bow tie. Wayne always had a project on the go, whether restoring his family home, renovations on First Avenue, fixing up an antique truck or building decks for friends, working at his own pace and with a sense of detail and precision. He was an excellent cook, never intimidated by complicated recipes – his mushroom risotto was a thing of beauty. Wayne had an eye for quality – whether in furniture, tools or art (he loved the recent Van Gogh experience). He was a caring and supportive son and partner. In recent years, he had some mobility issues but still loved life and his independence. Last year, his son Matthew moved from BC to live with them – at last someone could talk football and sports with Wayne. He loved watching sports, especially his beloved Dodgers. Wayne also enjoyed life long friendships with the ‘Gentlemen who lunch’.
