Lyon, Virginia (nee Hopkinson)
After a determined fight with cancer, peacefully passed with her three children by her side June 25, 2021, in her 84th year; beloved wife of David (2000) for 44 years. Dear mother of David (Jennifer), Mark (Pam) and Krista Cameron. Loving grandmother of Justin (Bekah), John (Nichole) Lyon, J.D. Cameron (Natasha), Mallorie (Christopher) and Samantha Lyon (Matt); and will be missed dearly by her sister Dale Howe (Jay), brother Syd Hopkinson (Rose) and nieces and nephews Karen, Randy (Kathy) and Stacey Howe, Elaina and Edward Zinner, Rhonda (Mike), John and Lorraine Hopkinson.
Throughout the years Virginia was a strong advocate for workers through her work with the CAW. After moving to Barry’s Bay over 20 years ago she become engrained in the local community through a multitude of volunteer positions including; serving as president of KAPOA; volunteered at the Opeongo Seniors Centre, President at times and catering many events; sat on the board of Barry’s Bay and Area Home Support for over 10 years, advocating once again for the rights of PSW’s and the possibility of seniors to remain at home for as long as possible; Chairman of the board for Zurakowski Park; volunteer of the Heritage Cup, KAPOA Poker Run and the Renfrew Senior Games. Virginia was also a member of the Red Hats Society, the Barry’s Bay Legion and made many friends in the community.
Due to restrictions a private family service will be held Saturday July 3, 2021 at Dods & McNair Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life event will be planned in the Madawaska Valley at a later date.
A tree will be planted in memory of Virginia in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
