Obituary for Violet Myers
On November16, 2021, at the age of 99, Violet Doris Myers (Dawson) returned home to the loving arms of her creator. Violet was born in Lambeth, England on March 30,1922. She was abandoned as an infant and adopted by Albert and Rose Dawson (predeceased). At the age of five her parents moved to Canada and left Violet in England with relatives. At six years old Violet crossed the ocean on her own to rejoin her parents. She loved telling the story of how kind people were to her. Vi moved to Wallaceburg after her school years for work, first in a department store, then the bond room during the war. Violet met the handsome young man who lived across the street from her. On March 10, 1945 she married Sidney William Myers (predeceased). Violet had a joy for life and you could be assured she would always be the life of the party, alcohol not involved! She loved her church, travel, music, dancing, theatre, and baking, but mostly she loved people, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vi was a member of St. James Anglican Church. Over the years she was a Sunday School teacher, youth councillor, a choir member, and a member of the Woman’s Chancellor Guild. Violet was also very active in volunteer work in her community, one being Meals on Wheels. People were always welcome at Vi’s home. She loved it when someone would just pop in for a chat over tea or coffee, and being an amazing baker, you could always count on something delicious to eat! Vi played the piano and organ and had a beautiful voice, singing right up till her last days. For several years she sang with the Seniors Group. Vi was a Bond Room girl, and one of the Birthday Girls. She was always stylish, positive, and happy. She would say “complaining doesn’t get you anywhere.” Violet was independent, and never lost her youthful spirit. Violet is survived by her children Lillian (Bruce Dean) Jim (Betty) and Patricia, her adoring grandchildren, Don (Giselle) Jennifer, Stephanie (Keith Brown), Cydney, and Laura (Quinton), and her loving nine great grandchildren. Vi is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, as well as her Dear Friend Jean Wesley. Although Violet will be deeply missed, she blessed us all with her spark, her love, and cherished memories. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers of the Victorian Order of Nurses and Vision Nursing Home for their compassionate care. She loved all of you, and you knew it! Violet will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1pm beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial donations in Violet’s name are encouraged to please consider the Pet and Wildlife Rescue of Chatham. Donations may be left at HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg, (519-627-3231) Remembrance and stories may be shared with her family on her tribute page at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca
