Vincent H Wall Tuesday December 7th 2021

WALL, Vincent Hubert – Vince died peacefully at the age of 86 on December 7th, 2021 with family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Teresa (nee Fayette), his children Jim, Fred, Kathleen and Patti. Father-in-law to Michelle (Schelkle) Wall and Matt Holmes. Much loved Grandpa to James Wall, Maggie Wall, Jonathan Wall, Anissa Holmes and Abby Holmes.
Born in Windsor on August 19th, 1935, Vince moved with his family to Toronto at the age of 1. Vince was the youngest of five children, last born of James E. Wall and Florence (nee Pageau). He was “baby brother” of Monica, Margaret Anne, Leonard (Archbishop of Winnipeg), and Claire Marie, all predeceased. He was the brother in law of the late Ken Boyle, the late Howard Greason, the late John Larkin and the late David Fayette. He will be remembered by his surviving in-laws and their children south of the border: Kathy and Walter Baumann, Amy Tarrant, Fred Fayette and Susan Walter, Marilyn Larkin, Dianne Fayette, Karen Fayette, Linda Fayette, Peter and Sandra Fayette, Jay and Susan Fayette. He was Uncle and friend to his nieces and nephews and played a special role in their lives growing up: Jim Boyle (Pauline), Brian Boyle (Sue), Teresa Shields (Richard), John Boyle (Kathy), Gerry Boyle, Mary Mundy (John), Leonard Boyle, Vince Greason and Mary Lou Jorgenson-Bacher (John). He leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Vince and Teresa (Terry) were married in 1967 and bought a farm in Orton, Ontario before settling in Eden Mills, Ontario in 1985 where they resided until 1995 before settling in and staying in Guelph, Ontario until his death. During these years and raising 4 kids, Vince embraced his creative side and took up acting, writing, storytelling, gardening and painting. He started Orton Farm Foods and sold his harvest at the Guelph Farmers Market. A lover of nature, he was proud to have walked the entire Bruce trail, end to end. He was a world traveller and road tripper and found a special connection to the city of New Orleans, Louisiana where he visited too many times to count. He had a love for sports (CFL, MLB and NHL), jazz music, art, books, politics and celebrating events big and small over a glass of fine Irish Whiskey. He will always be remembered for his beard, his powder blue suit and yellow canary pants, “grandpa” jokes, his dancing and singing and his distinct “hello”. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs, and was a master of sneaking treats to them whether he knew them or not. Over the past few years, Vince was a member of the Guelph Mens Club and Necessary Arts. He was a frequent visitor to the Balzac’s in downtown Guelph and Uptown Grill where the staff called him by name and knew his order.
He cherished his role as Grandpa. With his grandchildren, he travelled, taught them about the world as he knew it and shared stories.
Vince had his Masters in Social Work from the University of Toronto and dedicated his professional career to helping others. He spent the majority of his career at Dufferin-Peel Separate School Board where he held the title of Chief Social Worker until his retirement in 1994. He also taught social work at Renison College at the University of Waterloo.
Vince spent his last days in the care of the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street, North, Guelph on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 11-12 p.m. To attend a visitation time, please RSVP on the funeral home website, under Vince’s obituary.
