Vera’s Obituary
Vera Genevieve Penney passed away peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL on October 21, 2021, at the age of 83. Predeceased by parents Edwin and Pearl Christian, husband Kenneth, and her brother Leslie.
Left to mourn with loving memories are her brother Vincent (Marie) of Grand Falls Windsor and sister Hilda (John Waugh) of Gander, her seven nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own- Pamela, Wayne, Anna, Jeffrey, Peter, Kimberley and James and special friends Lillian, Ann and Eileen along with a large circle of relatives and friends.
Vera taught school and music for 33 years in various communities around Newfoundland and Labrador before settling into Centreville. There, she became part of the community and her church. She led the men’s choir for years and taught many young people the love of piano playing. She was actively involved in the Centerville town council. She served on many organizations such as the Resettlers Museum Library, and the Village Green Memorial Cenotaph committee. She moved to Gander and continued to do volunteer work at the Food Bank, Aviation Museum, Youth Justice and her church.
Her legacy of love of people has impacted many and will live on through those she has affected. Thank you to all for making Vera’s life so very full. She will be forever missed.
