Velma Victoria Redden

(93)of Bedford , passed away after a short illness in Halifax at the QEII hospital on Oct 8, 2021. Born in Springhill ,N.S. on Mothers day May13,1928.She was beautiful gift..to her parents the late Hubert and Ethel (Lewis) Pettigrew.
Mom’s favorite saying was do unto others as you would have them do unto you, such a powerful life lesson .With her love for children, she was in the field of Education for 36 years, teaching in Springhill and Dartmouth and her last 31 years as a teacher and principal in Bedford. All that knew her were blessed. In 1975 she opened and operated the first preschool in Bedford ,known as Vel’s Early Learning Centre, which served the community for 30 yrs .A faithful life member of the Bedford United Church , she served as a Sunday school teacher ,Superintendent, on the Board of Stewards ,church council and an elder for many years. She was also a lifetime member of her beloved U.C.W. fellowship unit, and a weekly hospital visitor for 24 years .She was an accomplished member of the Alumni Association of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, Retired Teachers Association and a member of Kwebec chapter #27 of the Eastern Star. So important to her was her love of trailering ,it brought her much needed relaxation and lasting friendships, as well as her women’s club in her earlier years .She also taught and loved square dancing, ballroom and line dancing ,and now, Mom now, a new endeavour….flying with the angels.
She is survived by her two daughters Maxine(Danny) McCorry , Bedford, and Lori-Sue (Tony)Davies Fort Saskachewan A.B. and stepson Tony(Diana) Langley B.C. Grandchildren , Amy(Chris)Hill, Kyla(Chris)Burry, Evan(Amie) Watkins, Alyx(Bernard) Leclair, Shari and Emma Leclair. Great-grandchildren Drake, Aidan, Ava, Oliver, Stella, and Parker .5 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. Many beloved sister in laws ,nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Milford Redden and her first husband Russell Terris, stepson Gary Redden and his wife Elaine
There will be a graveside service on Friday Oct 15th , 1:00pm at Brookside Cemetery on Wardour Street, Bedford N.S.
