Obituary
Wally was born in Denmark to Kristian and Jensina Thomsen. He came to visit his brother in Telkwa in 1957 and fell in love with the beautiful Bulkley Valley and its people. He worked in the bush for a short time and then in 1960 he was hired as a mechanic for Dahl Equipment in Telkwa. In 1962 he met Jean Cunningham and they were married in 1963.
Wally had purchased farm property and together they built a home where they raised two daughters, Leesa and Trina. He farmed and worked as a mechanic for more than 40 years and officially retired in 2000 but continued to enjoy mechanics as a hobby well into his eighties. He saw the potential in everything and was constantly creative and innovative. He was never idle and was always busy working on something.
Wally enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, his friends, good food, fishing, gardening, and travelling. In their retirement, He and Jean enjoyed many travels to visit children and grandchildren, and trips to warm places making many new friends along the way.
The last couple of years, Wally faced challenges with declining health, but showed constant courage and continued to make the most of his time with Jean, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean; daughters Leesa (Ron), Trina (Tony); grandchildren Amanda (Brandon), Katie (Kyle), Jennae (Joey), Amy (Josiah), Marcus, and Mia and great grandchildren Jay, Dayna, and Mylie.
He will be remembered with love and missed by all who knew him.
A very special thank you to Dr. Blackstock, Dr. Vestvik, and the nurses that provided such great care and compassion to Wally.
