Umberto’s Obituary
Peacefully and with the love of his family, Umberto was called to our Lord on January 16, 2021 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Rosina, for 62 years. Devoted father to Isolina (Bob) Kuzminski, Nino Spuria, Don (Leanne) Spuria, David (Connie) Spuria. Caro nonno to Nicholas and Lianna (Isolina), Julia, Fiona and Armando (Nino), Brandon and Jayden (Don), Leo and Malcolm (David).
Cherished brother to the late Anna and Armando Lucignano, the late Maria and Germano Ricci, the late Giulia and Massimo Vannucci, the late Giuseppe and Maria Spurio. Dearest brother-in-law to the late Giovanni (late Lina) Ranalli, the late Candeloro (Fulgenzia) Ranalli, the late Vincenzo Ranalli and Angelo (Ines) Ranalli. Loving Zio to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Pagliare di Morro D’oro, P. Teramo, Abruzzo Italy, Umberto and Rosina married and moved to Canada over 60 years ago and began a new life together. Umberto was a very proud and determined man who worked very hard as a bricklayer, home builder and farmer for more than 50 years to provide for his family. His love and focus centered around his family. His children’s needs always preceded his own. Their successes and accomplishments were a great joy to him. He valued higher education and made sure all four of his children graduated from University. In his later years, he very much enjoyed spending time in his garden tending to his many trees and plants. His cantina was always full as was his love for his grandchildren. He loved to cook and make all his home made goodies from porchetta to cheese making and shared that love with his family and grandchildren.
He never forgot his roots and always remembered fondly his beloved Pagliare. He was driven – never afraid to try new things and move forward. He was a man of determination and strong will to the end.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL HOME (43 Barton St. E). A private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Church (Queenston & Parkdale) and Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum in Burlington.
A memorial mass and a celebration of Umberto’s life will take place post pandemic.
