Obituary
It is with great sadness the family of Thomas George Chesterman announce his passing at the age of 79 years.
Tom passed away peacefully with his family by his side at South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta on June 26, 2021. He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Petrie); his son Aaron; stepchildren Nicole, Chris and Lauren; his sister Noel; his brother Allan; 5 grandchildren; mother-in-law Audrey; sister-in-Law Leanne; and brother-in-law Allan. He was predeceased by his parents George and Edith.
Tom was born in Nanaimo, BC on October 4, 1941. His passions included working for CUPE for 38 years as a National Representative, traveling and his grandkids. After retiring in Comox, BC he went to work for Expedia Cruise Ship Centre which helped with the cruising bug, of which there were many.
Tom and Trish started their journey together in Canmore, AB before being transferred to Comox. He was thrilled to be back on the island where he grew up! In 2002 they were married in the mountains of Canmore, AB with dear friends Sharon and Reinhardt by their sides and his beloved Aunty May to give him away.
Trish and Tom made many trips in their motorhome including a 3 month cross Canada trip, always with their “Princess Heidi of Nap-A-Lot”. Another trip they headed North with Trish’s parents and it included a once in a lifetime stop in Haida Gwaii.
As his health started to decline, they made the tough decision to move back to Calgary so that they were closer to family. Best decision ever as more grandchildren came soon after, whom he cherished all dearly.
With all of the help and support from his amazing medical team at South Health Campus, he was able to live a much longer and fulfilling life than was ever expected.
At Tom’s request cremation has taken place. An informal Celebration of Life will be held in Calgary on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00pm. Please RSVP to nicolebernauer@shaw.ca for details by August 1, 2021.

The family wishes to thank Tom’s entire medical team at South Health Campus, AgeCare Walden and AgeCare Seton for everything they have done for him, and us, the last few years of his life. We would also like to thank Kurtis Rae and the entire team at Evan J. Strong Funeral Home for helping us through this time in such an uplifting and positive way.
