Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theodore William John Tranmer (Ted) on October 10, 2021.
Born on October 5, 1944, in Newmarket, Ontario, Ted began life on a farm with his family. He and his three brothers, Larry, Bill, and Fraser would prove to be quite a handful for their mother, Rose although she was kind but firm with them all. Boys will be boys! This kindness, yet firmness, would be passed along to all her sons. Sadly, Ted would be predeceased by his father, Walter, his mother, Rose, and his youngest brother, Fraser.
He eventually moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he met the love of his life Lynn. Lynn had three children from a previous marriage, Debbie, Tammy, and Terry. Ted loved all three of them like they were his own, so much so that he adopted them. He wanted them to be legally his. A few years into their marriage they welcomed a son, Johnny in 1981. With Johnny in tow and the other kids grown and on their own, they made their way to Summerland, BC to begin anew. Times had been tough in Calgary and family was in Summerland, ready to help them start over.
Over the years Ted and Lynn had several different antique shops in Summerland. Through these businesses Ted and Lynn became very well known in Summerland and the surrounding areas for their keen love of antiques and collectables. For Ted, duck decoys and trains were his favorite!
In 2006 Ted and Lynn’s son John, passed away suddenly. Then in 2016, ten years later, Lynn passed away. Ted was heartbroken, but these losses made him that much stronger.
In later years, he cut, split, and delivered firewood with the “girls”. Four very wonderful young women whom he looked upon as daughters. Laura, Julie, Tristen, and Lorea helped him to deliver A LOT of wood over the years. Any one of his customers will tell you that “he was one tough guy, especially at his age!!” He could throw a piece of wood quite far when unloading the truck. Sometimes it went a little too far and occasionally he required a new back window. Many fur babies joined him at the wood lot including his own two girls, Patches and Panda. Sadly, they pre-deceased Ted in 2020. In December 2020, due to his illness, he was unable to continue with the wood.
Being the man he was, he couldn’t sit still for very long, so he decided to open an antique/used furniture store in town. On January 15, 2021, he officially opened Past to Present Quality Furniture, Antiques and Collectables. Ted was an animal lover and there are still many fur babies in town that simply cannot just walk by the store without firmly planting themselves in wait of the customary treats Ted always had for them.
His enduring spirit, patience, kindness, thoughtfulness, work ethic and many more amazing qualities can be attested to by the many, many friends he had. That twinkle in his eye when he was being mischievous, his “you too” when you told him you loved him or his calm demeanor when things became shaky. Oh, and we can’t forget his laughs! They were so heartfelt even when he was the only one who got the “joke”. These things were all his trademarks that he has left behind for those of us living who loved him.
He is survived by two of his brothers, Larry Tranmer (Jean) of Keswick, ON, Bill Tranmer of Summerland, BC, daughters Debra Smith (Stephen) of Bassano, AB, Tammy Kosolofski (Rick) of Summerland, BC, son Terry Tranmer of Penticton, BC. Grandchildren Zachary Hilton of Vancouver, BC, Heather Morash (Cory) of Vernon, BC and Mallory Demmon of Lethbridge, AB and many other relatives spread all over.
Ted requested no service although, in late spring or early summer 2022, there will be a gathering of friends and family., based on Covid19 protocols of course. A notice will be posted at a future date with the details.
