Obituary of THELMA MARIE VICKERS
VICKERS, Thelma Marie – Thelma Marie Vickers (nee Fehr) died Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe after a brief illness. She was 87. Born Dec. 14, 1933, in DeBolt, Alberta, the daughter of Ernest Fehr and the former Janet Todd. Thelma and her family came east from Peace River Country when she was a young teenager. Thelma raised her family on a farm between Renton and Townsend Centre in Norfolk County. Her love of gardening and the years she spent operating a ceramics studio prepared Thelma for fulfilling decades in later life as an accomplished watercolour painter specializing in florals and landscape portraits. Thelma was also inspired by the beautiful countryside of Norfolk County and had fond memories of the wilderness and wide open spaces of northern Alberta. Thelma is survived by her children Terry Sonnenberg (John Davis) of Simcoe, Leanore Angyal (Gil) of Villa Nova, Mark Sonnenberg of Silver Hill, Monte Sonnenberg of Port Dover, and Bryan Sonnenberg (Angie Eichel) of Niagara Region. Predeceased by son Russell Sonnenberg. The children’s father was the late Berthold Sonnenberg of Waterford. Also survived by sister Margarett Marshall (Terry) of Norfolk County, aunt Erna Parker, grandchildren Braden (Melissa), Jessica and Georgia (Curtis), and great-grandchildren Tyler, Avalyn, Cole, Bennett, and Beau, and life-long friend Gert Nicks. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Justice Gerald Vickers, brothers Robert, Donald and Larry, and grand-daughter Kendra Martyniuk. Thelma was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation in Simcoe. The family would like to thank Mike Godelie and Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie for excellent end-of-life care. Thanks also to the staff of Norfolk General Hospital and especially the Dover Cliffs Long-term Care Home in Port Dover for the extraordinary care our mother received since 2018. Cremation has taken place. The Thompson-Mott Funeral Home in Waterford is handling arrangements. Interment of ashes at Greenwood Cemetery in Waterford will take place during a private family service.
