Sadly Terry passed away the morning of Friday, December 24, 2021 at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. He is survived by his beloved wife Paula of over 33 years, his younger brother Bill, and his therapy cat Cinnamon. Predeceased by his brother Randy 0. (2019)
Terry loved to laugh and make jokes, and kept his sense of humour right to the end. A long distance trucker, he decided one day to quit his job and drive dump truck locally. He enjoyed that, until he fell off his truck cleaning the windows, and fractured his back and coccyx. And of course he kept working all day ‘cause it didn’t hurt that much. So he had to give up his golfing on Sundays with his buddies, and took up walking around the neighbourhood with his rollator and picker-upper for collecting garbage. Then he graduated to a 3 wheel tricycle and started exploring further afield. Many people knew him as he always waved, and kidded about the dogs taking their masters for a walk. He loved the trike, and bought one and left it in Florida, for all the 11 years we were fortunate enough to vacation in Cape Canaveral. He survived 4 cancer operations since 2009, and didn’t need follow-up chemo or anything, so that is amazing! And he provided free taxi service to Paula and her lady friends, in case they got a tad tipsy at their gatherings. (before Covid) Rumour (from his old Malton friends) is that his nickname back then was Twinkle Toes, but he denied that. He’ll be joining his brother Randy, and long time friends Mike, Bud and Trusty in heaven, and no doubt they are enjoying fond memories, songs, and discussions of old cars. He will be missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Thanks to Home and Community Care and the St. Elizabeth team who have provided excellent care to Terry, Dr. Colter and Dr. Lisi, and the wonderful caring nurses, PSW’s, and all the other front line workers at the Collingwood Hospital. Terry wore his red reindeer antlers while in the hospital to amuse them, and him-trying to keep everyone’s spirits up.
As per Terry’s wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no funeral service. He always hated funerals, and wanted everyone to remember him laughing and alive. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Collingwood District Humane Society, or the Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation.
