McNAMARA, Terrance
Leo – Evanston, age 78. It is with heavy
hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a beloved husband,
father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Terrance
« Terry » Leo McNamara in the QEII Health Sciences Centre on
Monday, November 2, 2020. Born in Evanston, January 21, 1942, he was
the son of the late Leo and Catherine « Katie »
McNamara.
He is survived by his wife and
soul mate of 52 years, Mary (Gerrior) and adored son, Tyson (Anne),
Evanston; precious grandchildren, Jeremey Carroll (Kayla), Edmonton,
AB; Stacey (Chad), Evanston and Danny, Edmonton, AB; family pets,
Maya, Max and Gus. Also left to morn Terry are his sisters, Dorothy
Jean MacDonald, St. Margaret’s Bay; Darlene (Junior) Martell, Port
Hawkesbury; Sharon Ann Sampson, Evanston; brothers, Wayne (Anne),
Evanston; Gary (Debbie), Halifax; sisters-in-law, Annie (Pius) White,
Whiteside; Mary Anita Gerrior, Johnstown; brother-in-law Neil Gerrior,
Johnstown; numerous nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his
sister, Patsy Dorey and brothers, Blair, Carl and Ernest in infancy,
brothers-in-law, George Gerrior and Eddie Sampson; sisters-in-law,
Patricia McNamara and Jean McNamara.
Terry retired from Stora Port
Hawkesbury April 1, 1998, where he worked for over 30 years and
enjoyed 22 years of retirement to the fullest. Terry was a lover of
music and played most of his life, either as a member of McNamara’s
band, the St. Francis de Sales church choir, and numerous house
parties. He could be found most Sundays enjoying the square dance in
Judique where he was known as a regular. His love for his
grandchildren was often seen while watching them play hockey,
football, soccer, and baseball or listening to his granddaughter
playing the violin, they were his pride and joy and loved to brag
about them. He was always active and loved to bike, swim and play
shuffle board, or anything that would get him out talking with people,
he seemed to know everyone and if he didn’t when he met you he did
after. Terry was an active volunteer at the Riverdale Community
Center, where he was often found in the kitchen cooking up a
storm.
A special thank you to the
doctors, nurses, and staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital, St
Martha’s Regional Hospital and the QEII Health Sciences Centre for
their exceptional and compassionate care during his sickness,
especially his niece Yvette Bouchie who went above and beyond in his
time of need.
In
keeping with Covid-19 guidelines, all attendees will be asked to
provide their names and telephone numbers upon arrival at the funeral
home. Social distancing protocols are to be followed and
masks are mandatory.
Visitation will be held Friday,
November 6, 2020, from 2 – 9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home,
724 Granville St, Port Hawkesbury. Prayers will be offered
by Father Duncan MacIsaac at 4:00p.m. A
private family funeral mass will take place on Monday, August 2 from
St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants. A
public graveside service will follow in St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery,
Whiteside. All are welcome to attend the committal service for Terry
at 12 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made
to the St Patrick’s Cemetery Fund, Whiteside or a charity of your
