Obituary of Teresa McKay
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Teresa McKay, 73, of Stellarton on February 13, 2021. Teresa passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Teresa was born in Port Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1970 with her husband, Thomas Anthony McKay. Everyone who knew Teresa loved her. She was a gentle, kind and sweet woman of deep faith. Life’s challenges were always handled in prayer. A devoted and loving wife, she spent several years caring for her husband during his illness. Her love for her family was immeasurable.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Over the years she taught Sunday School, was secretary and chairperson of the Liturgy Committee, served as secretary on the Parish Council and was a member of the 9 am Mass Folk Choir. Teresa served on the Committee of Concerned Nova Scotians for Life. During the 1990’s she joined the Cursillo Movement and worked at the Junior Cursillo Girl’s Challenge and attended the Atlantic Liturgical Conference in Newfoundland. She also served on the Pictou County Deanery Committee and was a member of the Outreach Committee. Teresa volunteered at Valley View Villa and the G.R.Saunders Elementary School breakfast program while her grandchildren attended. She enjoyed Scottish County Dancing, her Wednesday afternoon seniors’ group and most of all being ‘Nana’.
Teresa worked at Grant Thornton as an administrative assistant from 1985-2010; retiring early to care for her husband.
Teresa will be greatly missed by her children Martine McKay (Brad), Stellarton; Michael McKay, Florida; Loretta McKay (Darren), Calgary; Erin McKay (Glenn), Stellarton; grandchildren Danielle (Jonah), Keely, Braeden, Emma, Lucas, Liam and granddog, Leo; brothers Brian and Joseph; sisters Lorra, Christine and Catherine, and nieces and nephews, from Scotland, and her dearest friend and Sister in Christ, Barb Jerrett.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Anthony McKay; parents Joseph and Sarah (McLaughlan) Farquhar and brother, Malcolm, in infancy.
The most beautiful, selfless and loving soul, and although small and dainty her faith could move mountains.
Visitation will be from 7-9 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2021 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, Covid-19 restrictions will be in place.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Mass of Christian Burial will be livestreamed on the ‘Our Lady of Lourdes Church’ Facebook page.
